biggrin.gif Hey you all! i was wondering to make a above pond
what exacly would i need im planing to just have a
above pond because i live in a condo and
i have a small part of land
for my self

Question!

What will i need to make a above pond ?
Ranchugirl
We used 4x4 inch x 8 ft timberwood, and stacked, screwed and hammered them together interlocking with the full length of 8 ft, but you can just devide those 8 ft long poles and make a 4x4 ft box out of it. Get pondliner for it, fit it in the corners while the pond fills up, and thats it!
Or, if you want an even smaller box, thick plywood will do, too. Cut it to the length and height of all 4 sides and the bottom, screw them together and support them with 2x4 wood on the top and the bottom of the box. We have a 250 gl pond like that, and it is doing fine for the last 2 years....Pondliner in that as well..... smile.gif

huh.gif because i was just thinking of buying those
pools made just for ponds? maby that will be alot easier

Rachugirl how big is your pond about?

O and Thank you Rachugirl for all the
helpful information biggrin.gif !
Ranchugirl
Black Oranda, we have a few different sized ponds, all built that same way. One is 250 gl, two are 650 gl, and the big one holds 1200 gl around. They have all been running for years with no problem or leaks. For the biggest one we made a concrete base, just to be on the safe side. The others have plywood as base.
Its addicting, I tell you! Once you see how nice they look , you want more and more! biggrin.gif
Or course, if you only have limited space awailable, you might be better off with a rubbermaid container. They come in different sizes as well, from 100 gl up to 300 gl. Or you can check out Aquatic Ecosystems, thats where I got my 160 gl tubs from. You might find something similar in Canada. smile.gif Here is the ones I got http://www.aquaticeco.com/aquatic1v1/itemp...passitemid=6643

Once again Rachugirl i thank you for your helpful
information.Okay well i went to see if a 160 gal
fits and it fits perfectly just write

If it was a inch bigger it would not fit
Do you thik Home depo would have
a 160 gal?
Ranchugirl
The only thing to put fish in at our HomeDepot are those preformed ponds, they also come in different sizes, but they are made to be inground. They dont hold water that good if standing above ground, not strong enough after a while. But maybe the Canadian homedepot is better at those things! smile.gif

They seem to have big ovel plastic things out side i think
it's for ponds ...... ill have to ask
i was thinking just to pu some fancy goldfish in the pond like orandas
lionheads, black moore ....
it should look nice rolleyes.gif

Hi,
Remember that water is very heavy, about 8 pounds per gallon. So a 160 gallon tub would weigh 1280 pounds!! If the preformed pond is meant to be put IN the ground, the sides would not be strong enough to support it above ground.

What a great way to be able to have more fish!!!

Tractor Supply Company... 150 Gallon Rubbermaid Stock Tank

I have two and they work very well.

We've got a 100 gal black poly stock tank from the Tractor store in ground. Thought our Labrador would swim in in instead of the goldfish pond, but heck no! He didn't like the looks of it at all! So we got some mosquito fish and set it up with an inexpensive filter and pump and decorated it, with hyacinths floating on top. Frogs love it! They happily croak like their at a big pond and dive in whenever anyone comes near. Where there's water there's life!

Have you looked at the galvanized stock tanks. They come in many different sizes and are very study. It is also easy to landscape around them.
