Full Version: Does Anyone Elses Betta Do This?

My Betta Fillet insists on jumping up at my fingers when I feed him. He's jumped out of his tank twice doing this, he sees my fingers and up he goes right over the edge! As soon as he sees me getting ready to feed he goes crazy. He acts like he's starving, which he's not.

Then theres my Betta Pisces who is normally too busy flaring at me and my fingers to even notice I fed him. He's become quite the little stud lately.

Betta's are so weird sometimes, you got to love them.

yep, if I take too long dropping the food in both of my guys will jump and nip my fingers! My big guy spazzes when his head leaves the water though, so he flops back down all terrified and forgets to eat!! My little "sick" betta will really be a problem once he gets stronger, man can he jump!!

Food is all my betta cares about when he sees me enter the room and he starts doing the "feed me" dance. If I take too long he'll do a dolphin leap and nip my fingers.

My Bettas have never bitten me. Maybe they're passive-aggresive towards me?

rofl3.gif my female nola, sometimes i fake like i'm feeding her so i can get her to jump up and grab my fingers, she's too cute. i have her sitting on my desk and she is always staring up at the top waiting for me to feed her, then sometimes i hear her jump and splash the water rolleyes.gif lola and juliet jump out of the water when i feed them too, especially juliet sometimes her whole body comes out the water. some of my males pounce at the water but they don't jump out. and they are always so focused on my hands that they don't realize that i've feed them so i have to keep pointing and pointing at the food til they see it. sometimes it's aggravating rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

Lol kristy!!! I've got to do the same thing. Orchard's getting to be a smart boy though. He watches for my finger, and once my hand leaves the tank he knows I left a pellet where it was and he attacks it smile.gif

laugh.gif kissy i wish my guys were that smart, if i put my hand down before they see the food they'll swim down to the bottom and start the feed me wiggle so then i have to start pointing to their food til they see it and get it rolleyes.gif

littleone, that is a good idea, maybe they are just tricking us to get more food laugh.gif

My girl does this but I think she just wants to bite me. I'll drop food right in front of her face and she'll look at it and then go for my finger. She's an evil little creature and that's why I love her smile.gif
Persimmon
When I had Bettas I would slide the lid over, drop the food and cover...I always had trouble with them diving for the food. blink.gif

I'm the same way, persimmon. My guys know it's feeding time when I lift the lid. Well, all of my guys and gals, except Bellicose. He's a little nipper. Scared the crap out of me the first time, because I've never experienced that in my entire time keeping bettas.

When flare sees the tank lid opening, he swims to the bottom and does nothing. After i put food in, he starts flaring at me then i put more food in and he starts eating.
