Hi everyone. After reading a lot about Pro Gold I thought Id try it. Couldnt find it in the stores, so I bought Hikari Oranda Gold and Hikari Gold. Does anyone know if it is similar to Pro Gold? Does Hikari make that too???

Ive had my fish for about 6 months. They were about 2 inches when I got them. I have 5 in a 55 gallon tank, and I do at least a 25% water change every week. So they arent stunted. They have only grown 1 INCH in the last 6 MONTHS! I was feeding them just flake food..I think Wardley brand. I also gave them home-made gel food. mostly veggies with some flakes and tubifex thrown in.

Could their slow growth be because of this food? Do you thin kthe food I bought will do the trick or should I try to find the Pro Gold???

Thanks again guys heartpump.gif

Im interested as well. I think one of the only places to get Pro-Gold is goldfishconnection.com. My fish arent showing much growth at all. Let me know how the Hikari food is though. I was debating on trying it myself. smile.gif

Ill let ya know! lol. I was reading gchen's post and all her fish experiments and seeing how her grew in such a short time! I knew I was doing something wrong. Im pretty sure its the food because all 14 fish are growing very slow.

Tell me about it!! I have a small ranchu and lionhead and I can barely notice a change in a few months! I want them to GROW!! biggrin.gif

hikari is excellent. I use hikari oranda gold and ht elionhead varieties. I also use hikari wheat germ. Try changing your water twice a week. cleaner water promotes faster growth. I clean line almost three times a week. I have excellent filtration though.
gia_ekdahl
what % do you change though? I do anywhere from 25% to 50% depending on how much time I have. THe test results are always ok, even after a week, but sometimes I like to do a 50% water change one week just for the heck of it. Im not entirely sure thats a superb idea, but I do it anyway...just in case.
pinoygoldfish
i do 30% water changes atleast twice a week and atleast 50% water change once evry month.

Wow! I sure hope I had the time to do all those water changes in one week! I also hope that I've got enough space to get more tanks so my fishes would grow quicker.

I think progold has "magical" powers for making goldfishes grow quicker rofl3.gif . Undfortunately, we dont have that here. sad.gif

Fastest growth speed~
omega one with spirulina and 10% daily water change, I had a goldfish shoot almost 1/3-1/2 an inch a week
gia_ekdahl
whoa..... you guys I gotta try that stuff. lol. 1/2 - 1 inch in 6 months is making me go wall.gif

I want my fish to grow too -I do 25% changes every 2 days- 50% once a month.
Same growth rate as Gia.

try 10%-15% a day, constant shock with a 1/4 change in water every two days can actually decrease growth rate depending on your water quality

Oh sad.gif

10% just doesn't seem very much..but you reckon that would speed up their growth if done daily?

I feed mine with hikari lionhead or hikari wheatgerm or special feeds from the famous Tung Hoi fish farm in china(if u can get it in ur country)......try duckweeds. And if u want, u can try tofu as well....japanese egg tofu(good for wen growth).that's what most thai and some japanese breeders use as supplement...it's very good for growth biggrin.gif . Green water helps too.And of course good water and enough space

I just wanted to let you guys know that I HAVE noticed a difference!!!!

I have been using it for about 5 weeks now and my red cap has shot up about 1/2 inch and looks quite plump, my ranchu also looks plumper and I think he's grown a bit in length but not much. My orange oranda has grown also, maybe 1/4 - 1/2 inch and his wen has done a lot of growing since introducing this new food. I have been giving some to my moors and fantail and while I dont see a lot of difference with my small moor and my fantail, my adult moor, Lacy, has put on an inch! I fed some to my commons and they are growing no matter what I think.

Only thing is I cant say its helping with the colors, really. Dont see much difference there. Actually, Im loosing reds in 3 of my fish!

Jellybean used to have a LOT of orange on him and is now pure white except a teeny bit on his tail. My red cap appears to be loosing the red in his wen. Although I am happy to say that he now shows signs of a wen and he didnt have any before. Also my white comet with a red cap is losing his red also!!!! Im not too thrilled with these changes. Im begining to wonder if its something in the water here?

New signs of wen are white at first, later on when the fish is done developing that portion it would turn red
glitterfish
Well I started feeding Pro-Gold and Hikari flakes. So far, I havent noticed much a difference. Maybe because Im a bit overcrowded at the moment. headscratch.gif

My panda is turning orange though! yikes.gif

Yeah I know, hon. biggrin.gif What I meant was he used to have red all the way down to his lips, and more on the back of his head, and now the red doesnt touch his lips anymore and the red in back is a lot less. Its not like a white spot in the wen, the red is actually going away, unfortunatly. My orange oranda always gets those white spots in his wen when it grows, and in the last month I saw maybe 2 or 3 spots. biggrin.gif And I can tell its noticably larger.

I dont understand why all my red and white fish are losing color though. It seems odd that they are all doing this. That is why Im thinking its the water. It cant be the food because Jellybean started turning before I changed food.
