Just wondering, i have a 29 gal with two small (about 2in including tail) gf. It is a new tank and has been running for about a week. I have been doing 50% water changes every few days. From what im reading this may be to much at one time. What is the recommend changing of water during cycling for my tank? I have a few live anachris(sp?) plants. It has a penguin 350 and a bubble wand.

Change whatever volume of water, as often as you need to, to keep the ammonia below 1ppm. I like to change until it is about .5 ppm on the ammonia.

Do not worry - the fish are always adding more for the cycle to grow on. As long as you are not rinsing or scrubbing your biomedia, you will not harm the cycle at all in doing major water changes and you may be saving your fish from a lifetime of problems. I sincerely believe that exposure to high ammonia, and particularly high nitrites, can permanently injure a fish. Keep the numbers down and you should be OK.

Do not be afraid of aggressive water changes. They can be your friend. Your biomedia is the platform for the cycle - not the water.
