I just did water change in my gsp tank and had too much salt in the bucket. She has been in 1.012 since I got her in the summer. She is now 3 inches and the salinity is now 1.014 after water change. Is this too much for her, what signs should I look for that it is stressing her out too much and lower salinity. She has not had a change in salinity since I got her, first time increase. unsure.gif

any salinity change must be done Very slowly not just for fishes sake but also for filter, 1.014 as gsp is 3inch (not including tail yes) it is big enough that I would be happy moving the salinity up SLOWLY smile.gif

Thanx for all the replies. She seems to be doing fine so I guess she is ok with the increase. Her colors have been greyish, but shortly after her colors became bright and she was quite active. She ate her christmas breakfast fine, shrimp. I guess the salinity was too low for her because now she is more happy, good mistake.

Just a side note....it is always easier on the fish to move down in SG then it is to go up, that is of course within reason... .001 to .002 change is not that drastic and your fish should do fine.... In my reef tank I try and keep my SG between 1.024-1.026 and when I try and adjust my SG I try to do it at .001 over a few days and then if I need to go further then I try to do that over a few water changes.... I have never noticed undo stress or lost any critters after fine tuning my SG..... Very glad every thing is fine in your tank!!!!

SG = Specific Gravity....that is the readings you are seeing...

Salinity is measured differently...I realize they go hand in hand but the salinity at 1.014 specific gravity is about 13.... The salinity in my reef tank is at 35-36.... On my pinpoint salinity monitor it is measured differently yet!! But that is another story.... Probably a lot more information than was needed.... rofl3.gif
