Hi guys,
I just got a new pleco newfish.gif on Monday after going to watch a movie. My dad thought we would save money by going to the mall in the next town over. ha ha ha ha. Well, he wasn't counting on there being a pet shop on the way to the movie and there was the type of pleco I had been looking for for four months. Well, he looked healthy in the pet store tank but now that I have had Regalo de Dios home for a few days, he has shown up with ich. Also, do I need to treat him for parasites during the month quarantine before putting him in with my goldfish?
Thanks.

Ooohhh congrats on the new pleco. Yes you most definetly want to treat him before letting him in the main tank.
I am not sure of pleco and ich so I am going to move your thread to the tropical disease section, there you will have tropical experts helping you.

Good luck with the little guy.

Hi.Congrats on the New Pleco. smile.gif What size is he,and what type? Pleco's are known for not dealing too well with salt,so if you treat him with that, you want to do it very slowly, and keep a watchful eye on him.To actually get rid of the Ick,you'd have to treat him at .03% for a substantial length of time, and alot of Pleco's don't handle that strength well/if at all. You can try something like Quick Cure which works well. You also have to be very careful using anything with Malachite Green/Formalin,because they too can be somewhat tough on the smaller Pleco's. Anytime you use those types of Meds, you have to cover your tank with something like a towel,as light makes the Meds ineffective.Let me know what kind/how big,and treatment you're thinking of doing & we'll go from there. smile.gif

Hi, my pleco is about 3 inches long and he is a snowflake pleco. I had one of those about a year ago and he lived really well with my goldies. I have been putting 1 cc of coppersafe from mardel in his tank which is a two gallon quarantine tank. The ich med says it i s safe foir catfish and loaches and such. It's active ingredients are Chelated Copper Sulfate. At least that's what it says on the bottle. My mom told me to give it a try and he has been holding his dorsal fin up lately. Should I change out some more of his water maybe. Also, the bottle says to do water changes with every dose so I have been doing that.

If the Coppersafe seems to be doing it's job, then just stick with that. Do you have a test kit to actually check his water param's? If not, maybe change out about 20 %.I'm not big on guessing games though. The test kits are so much easier to deal with, especially with him being in such a small Q-tank.

sad.gif This was a thread from last December--It's 9 months old..Please don't pull up anything that ancient. Two months and newer is about right. If you see something in an older thread that you have an interest in,start a new thread.
To me,this looks like you're posting to post, and if caught, your posts will get docked.-the person had allready said that it was a Snowflake Pleco.
Let this be your warning for next time.
