~ Hey ~ Does anyone know how to make a filter yourself using maybe an airpump and any other supplies instead of buying a power filter? This is just an idea, it most likely does not work but if anyone has tried it and it worked for them please let me know!

Thanks!

I made something very similar for my 3 gal fish bowl, except its tiny with a small air pump and made from a little fancy glass salt/pepper shaker. Works pretty good and is better then no filteration for my betta.

Often in ponding we make our own filters, using a container of some sort (55 gal barrels or rubbermaids), foam or bio balls or shredded pvc or lava rock(not a good idea) as well as a pump. I'm sure the same principals can be used in making an aquarium filter. as a matter of fact i just remembered a site with instructions...Emperor's Goldfish

I hope this helps!
