sad.gif newfish.gif Can anyone help me? I have 6 golfish in a nicely sided aquarium (no filter - YET). Basically...evrything was cool, i had 2 tanks. 4fish in one and 3 in the other.

one died from the 3tank, so i put the other 2 in with the 4.

now there is 1 tank wih 6 fish...This is where the problem started.
The largest goldfish started to act funny/ strange. E.g. He would shake his head fast and go a crazy for a sec...freaky.

I woke up the next day and he had a redish/white spot on back. looks like a bruise.
I have removed him from the tank and placed him in his own tank. Only now the other fish are acting a little starnge. Staying at the bottom, Having strange fast shakes(fits-i dont know)
Im worried. The water is fresh and clean. WHAT SHALL I DO..

please could you help me

please if you would, try to answer the questions in the red box above so we can help you better.

since you have no filter i would not recommend feeding the goldfish at all unless you do many water changes.

You need to get a filter ASAP.

your fish are probably very stressed from being switched between tanks so much.

hope others will help you out here

It sounds like you might have a paracite problem but we can't be of much help until you answer as many of the questions in the red box as possible biggrin.gif

Hi and welcome.

Before you start treating for anything, it is a must that we know what the water parms first. Without a filter on the tank, the cycle is not in place, therefore the water will be very bad for them to live in.

I would recommend an immediate 70% water change if in fact there is NO filter on the tank. Make sure to use a water conditioner and temp match the new water.

Post back soon and we can help futhrer.
You may also need to read up on cycling and having filters in place. GF absolutly have to have this in order to live.

If you've kept four fish alive in an overstocked tank with no filter for over a year, then consider yourself very lucky. That doesn't often happen.Unfortunately, they may have not been as healthy as they seem to have appeared, and may even now have many problems that just haven't surfaced as of yet. A filter in the correct size is a must.Test kits are one of the most important purchases that you need to make-especially when you are keeping fish in an not so ideal enviroment. What sizes are these aquariums? As to the one that died,I'm curious as to why you put the remaining two in with your other fish? You could have possibly contaminated everyone. sad.gif How often/how much are you doing water changes/gravel vacs? There are alot of reasons why your fish could be acting the way they are,but we really do need a bit more information from the questions in the red area. Are your fish showing any other symptoms/Red Streaks/Flashing against gravel/Ornaments,etc/gasping/frayed fins/spitting? As for thinking it's Ick, are you seeing white spots on your fish that resemble little grains of sand? Please post soon so we can help you. If your purchasing test kits today,I'd also take a sample of your water and let the LFS test it for you.Make sure and have them write all your parameter's down for you.It may also be a good idea to pick up some aquarium salt if you don't have any handy.

Your answer is still so blur blur lah, not specific.
Keeping 6 fish in an unfiltered tank, no matter how big, is dangerous already (and I agree with Devs that ur very lucky to still have your fish after 1 year).

How often do you change you water?

Are you sure it's ich? ur description of the symptoms doesn't correspond with ich's symptoms.

I got some pics of strat96's fish & set up.

strat96 also informed me that he bought ammovec & added it to the tank. he went to buy a test kit but the store run out.

Ouch, that's a nasty looking ulcer starting to form sad.gif

There's a few things you can do to help him here in the absense of a filter and test kits:

1) massive daily waterchanges - every day (about 80%). Try to match the temperature and ph exactly and dechlorinate the water first

2) as Sharon suggested, add 1 teaspoon of aquarium or sea or rock salt per gallon and remember to replace it each time you do waterchanges. As a tip, it's much cheaper to go to the grocery store and pick up some sea or rock salt

3) Try to get an air stone for the tank - good aeration is excellent and necessary for fish

4) If you can get some iodine and a q-tip, gently hold your fish in a wet but very clean cloth (with no detergents) and dab the spot with iodine using the q-tip. Do this only once and make sure no iodine gets near the eyes, gills or mouth.

I think the main issue you face is water quality. So as soon as you can, grab some test kits and a filter (I know this has already been mentioned smile.gif ) - that way you can control their environment and make sure it's as healthy as possible - but until that time comes, water changes, water changes and more waterchanges smile.gif

Hi guys..

Thanks for posting those pics up gollem.

I will take a water sample to the store today and get them to test it for me. I will also buy a filter for my tank.

As for the lionhead hes gettin worse sad.gif (ive named him midgley).
He now has 2 little white spots on his head. I think you can see one of them if u look closely at the pic of him above(in gollems post).

Who would have thought id get so attatched to a goldfish l o l. Im worried for him. Hopefully after i get my water tested today i can find out what i need to do.
bUT WHAT DO U GUYS SUGGEST IF HES GOT THESE SPOTS??

thanks

First you will need to get the water under control. Good water is essential to everything. Once we know exactly what you are dealing with we will be able to recommed more.
Ranchugirl
How did the water tests turn out, Strat? The white specks on his head can be something totally normal - fish with headgrowth, like orandas, ranchu and lionhead, get that occassionally. It isn't really clear if it is because of some little waste material decaying in the crevises of the headgrowth, or if it is the onset of new growth alltogether.
Of course, if those dimples are growing or building up a velvety cottony kind of look then we have to address that further... smile.gif
