HI
just did a 25% water change today and the last one was 1week and two days ago,we try to do it every week

ph 7.5
Am 0ppm
Ni 0ppm
Na 15ppm

we have an undergravel filtration and a penquin 100 in a 33 gallon tank that has been running for about 6months
there are 5 goldies- 2 comets and 3 fantails
we use aqua plus tap water conditioner by nutrifin and cycle by nurifin
today we added aqutan VBC-stress protection 5in1 conditioner by sera with the water change
we feed them wardley's total goldfish flake and occasionally give some wardley's goldfish T.E.N small floating pellets and grapes once in awhile.
We added a spotted rubberlip pleco last wednesday (1 week 2 days ago)
Until today the only abnormal thing that we noticed was that they were sitting on the bottom of the tank. They seemed to be eating the same and would start to swim around as normal....and then today when we returned home from the lfs we noticed that a few of them had white spots on their tailfins. ohmy.gif

When we added Spot( the rubberlip pleco) we added a heater into the tank to bring the temperature up just a few degrees....while the silly heater that came with our starter kit wasnt very descriptive in the directions and it sky rocketed the temp. so we turned it off and decided to go and buy a new better one that actually let us chose the temperature that we want it to be. So im hoping that the sudden temperature spike didnt cause them too much stress .....krazy.gif

Any ideas on what is troubling my son's little fishies would be greatly appreciated .....

Any possible suggestions would be greatly appreciated. They seem to be doing about the same.....still sitting on the bottom but when i fed them today they came up to eat....but then went back to the bottom crap.gif . I hope im not losing my fishies sad.gif

Oh,my!I'm sorry no one replied!
They probably just didnt see your thread!
Do you find anything on their skin?
Like small white dots?
Yout tank is overstocked and that pleco worsened the condition. You parameters seem good so it could have beem that the pleco introduced soemthing

sad.gif sorry i didn't see this thread either.

it might be the additional load of another fish on an already overstocked tank. your water parameters are good, but i think you might need to up the amount of water changes if you've got 6 fish in a 33 gal.

are the white spots you see small ones that look like salt grains, or are they moldy looking with fuzz?

you might want to start with salting your tank 1 tablespoon/ gal. and performing more water changes.

did you perchance quarantine your rubberlip pleco before adding him to the tank?

hi again

I would like to thank whirlwind and tinkokeshi for being the only ones to reply to my post after numerous peeps had checked it out.

well im sad to say that i have lost my new pleco spot and one of the fantails in this very sad situation. I have treated the remaining fish with rid ich and they have fully recovered and seem to be happy and content now.....no more sitting on the bottom or anything abnormal .

I was just curious how long should i wait till i get another pleco to add to my tank? if any one could answer this question i would be very appreciative

Thanks again Whirlwind and Tinkokeshi heartpump.gif

sad.gif I'm sorry that you felt that your post was ignored.Sometimes when the people volume is high, there are alot of Threads posted which can/ & will push your thread to the bottom real fast if it's not caught right away.Next time that happens, "Bump" your own post so that someone will notice it. smile.gif We really do try hard to keep that from happening, but once in a while,a few do slip through. Just my opinion, but I think the Ick came from the Drastic temp change from the malfunctioned heater, and not the Pleco. Personally,I would forego the Pleco until you get a bigger tank, and more adequate Filtration. You are allready quite overstocked on your tank, and will have to do really frequent water changes to keep up with their growth & waste that they produce.

First, I'd like to welcome you to Koko's!

Secondly, many people may have checked out your post, but may have been unable to offer you any advice. Not everyone on this board is an expert. Please be patient with us and we'll try to help you as quickly as possible.

Thirdly, salting should be performed at 1 TEASPOON per gallon. NOT 1 TABLESPOON per gallon.

Here is a useful link on salting for your reference:

As the other two helpful members have indicated, you are overstocked. It is recommended that fancy goldfish have 10 gallons each.

As far as how long you should wait....it's up to you. I would not add anything else at the moment. I would let your fish recover from their recent illness, and keep an eye out for anything else to pop up. But if you decide to, you should quarantine the new addition for at least 30 days before adding him to your community tank.
