The fish was sitting with his chin on the bottom of the tank. He would swim up and then sink down, clunk, onto the bottom again.
I lifted him out of the tank, holding him over the water so if I dropped him, he would fall back in the water. I used a pair a tweezers to get the stone out.
You need a pair of round ended tweezers for this kind of work. I took a pair and dipped them in the rubberized plastic coating used for tool handles and such. Just the tips.... It gives the ends good gripping power when dealing with slippery stones, anchor worms, stuck impellors, and other weird stuff I am always seeming to need to grab with the fish.
It is worth making an emergency kit with various things in it - the round ended tweezers are definately a good tool to have before you need them.
