Do you have a special betta food for him? From talking to others, they seem to like pellets more than flakes, and you can buy pellets just for bettas. My bettas will eat anything, lol. Also try some frozen or freeze-dried foods, like brine shrimp, bloodworms, ect. The only problem with freeze dried food is that it can make them constipated, but you can give them little pieces of peas occasionally to help prevent that. But it is good to have a pellet food that they will eat. I use Hikari Betta Bio-gold. There are a few other brands to try, also. Bettas DO like meat (they don't eat plants, or not much, in nature) and betta pellets are mostly meat.

Frozen or live foods such as bloodworms are excellent to use as a regualr addition to there diet.
Beware of feeding chicken or any other terrestrial meat, as it can cause fatal "fatty liver", becuase fish cannot digest mammilian fats properly.
