At Petsmart, Tetra sells large decorative logs and rocks that have Tetra power fitlers built into them. The effect is very cool and I've been interesetd in buying one. Does anyone know if they work or are worth the 30 dollars? Thanks!

I think they have the exact same performance as the whisper internal filters.

They are cool looking - seem rather a bit more difficult to clean. My thoughts on them were if you wanted to give up water volume for a large ornament, what better than to have the ornament help clean the water?

They do not have much gph - as pointed out in the above post ( smile.gif ), but if used in addition to other filtration, could add an extra bit to the overall gph.

I decided against them, for I did not like what I would have to do to clean it to my standards....

Intereesting idea, though.

The unit looks nice, but as the others have stated, it is basically a whisper internal filter placed inside a large ornament. I think it would be good as a secondary back-up filter if you are willing to give up a lot of tank space.

Hello there,

Do you guys think you could put a different filter in there, like a bio-wheel for some extra mmmph?

I don't think the biowheel would do much good under water. Those bugs on the wheel need oxygen to survive.
I'd really consider using that kind of filter as a nice decorative extra filtration if you have a bigger tank. I know it would look nice in my 160gl. And just think - you can use it in case you find a new fish someplace and have to setup a quarantine tank really fast. smile.gif

Gotcha,

I couldn't tell from the pic that it is completely submerged. Looks like I will be getting a 55gallon in January (maybe sooner) so I was looking at those for the center of the tank.
I like the idea of a tree trunk kind of thing smile.gif , I can pretend I have a pond in my apt. living room fish.gif heehee!

Thanks,

S~

Thanks all for your posts. I decided to get one as a secondary filter. It looks really cool but it is a bit cumbersome to clean. Now I'll just see how it does with the actual cleaning. biggrin.gif

I was just looking at these filters too as a secondary, functional ornament. Keep us up-to-date about how it works for you. I could only find it online since Alaska has limited selections of stores. I would like to hear more before I buy one.
