Is that the same as BettaFix? Its what I am using for my little fin rot rescue baby.

No, bettamax is a pill you drop into come water and make a nice green concentrate... its an anti-bacterial and a vitamin boost. smile.gif good stuff

why don't they sell it anymore?

I heard bettamax was really good. ;_; I heard it turned the water blue, though, or was that bettafix?
d_golem
Bettafix doesn't turn the water blue/green biggrin.gif
I am trying to find bettamax also, too bad they don't make it anymore rolleyes.gif

Yeah...I used it before and it was a miracle worker! Now pet stores have withdrawn the item and I don't know why. I'm not a big fan of Bettafix - i've used it and have not seen any results from it.

I did a quick search on the medication. It seem's the medication was a very low grade antibiotic and from things I read, sounds like it was addictive as well... blink.gif

I was curiouse you could say here in regards.

If a product is low grade, then you run the risk's of making the problem immune to the particular antibiotic, hence it appears to clear up, then comes back. The situation would slowly revolve from bad to worse... Make sense?

If the product has vitamins in, then I would think perhaps adding vitamins might also boost the fish into "feeling good", but when not in use, the vitamin boost would wear off.... dry.gif

Magick, is there a list of ingrediants on the package? If so list them up and I'll see what they are. biggrin.gif

the company just decieded not to make it anymore... (here in Cali, their getting tougher on meds you can make and sell, my managers think thats why we cant get it anymore)

lets see, ingrediants:

250 mg capsules of water solublr nitrofurazone, methylene blue, pvp, vitamins, NaCl, sulfas: methazine, diazine and merazine.

I have always had great luck with it. used to use it when I brought new bettas home, for rips and tears, and things like popeye... (and once for dropsy, which worked! unfortunenly, a month later she got it back, worse) The vitamins really help fish that just seem "unhappy"... you know, betta pouty symdrome? (BPS? lol!) and when their so sad when their sick... smile.gif

Hi Magick,
Well, I tracked it down somewhat. I found several places offering it online. I have some reservations though.....

Nitro,Meth blue, both are available along with sulfa type drugs(antibiotics/bacterial). naCI, salt, well, thats in the cupboard, lol! Vitamins also available in waterborn drops.

What worry's me, and I see the point, is from reading the "addictive" about it in other forums. I'm assuming from a bit of common sense here, it would actually be the vitamins...

We all feel better when we get vitamins, more energy etc etc.. Follow me on this?

So, you get a fish well and remove the meds, no more vitamins, then sooner or later fishy is downhill again. See where I'm going with this? I think this may account for the "addiction" part I read anyway. I know I certainly get tired out and listless when I'm not taking vitamins etc.

Problem is, when you use the same meds over and over, it begins to build a immunity.... All involved can, bugs, bacteria, fish. Sooner or later it can and will fail. sad.gif

It may just be that CA is being as you said, real picky about meds. It just doesn't seem logical to me for a company to discontinue a product that appears to be popular and selling well if you want my 2 cents worth on that, lol!

Other then the typical things we tend to Q on immunities and such, I can't see anything that may be worrisome or a bad line product in the ingrediants.

What I have seen though, is a lot of lfs will discontinue to carry products that actually do work... Why? Because they can't sell more fish if we get them all better! Has to make you wonder anyway! blink.gif

I'll take a look around up here though and see if they have pulled it off the shelves here or not though. wink.gif

Cool! I'll have to order some more... I have never heard of it being addicting... thats just weird...

tequnicly you can get hooked on just about any meds though....

i found that the vitaminsjust seem to help pull the bettas through tough times. but maybe my bettas are tougher then others!

Try the search, several forums/sites came up with the Bettamax mentioned.

Well, I had heard of things being overdosed/overuse with dire consequences for people, but I would think that if it can happen to people, might be reasonable to think it can happen to animals & fish also. Had a friend who od'd on health food type vitamins and stuff from a health food store, turns out that a od on that was actually detrimental to. Scary! So I agree there!
