when i took the rocks out of my tank there was a smell like amonnia and salfer. is tanks supposed to like this?
koko
Thats the junk under the rocks, the waste and if this isnt keeped down to a minium this can cause many problems, biggest one I have found is Dropsy.
This is why gravel syphoning is si important. It should smell a little but alot isnt good......I hope I made since smile.gif
Moongoldy7568
yah and i dont have any rocks anymore in my tank
koko
So now you wont have the problem of that. When I do my tanks I do a gravel syphon of 50% water change. I do it around my plants, making sure that when I do do it it looks clear when I done in the tube smile.gif
Moongoldy7568
i think plants collect more garbage than the rocks.. huh.gif
koko
Well that depends on how populated the tanks are with plants and how much you feed your fish. smile.gif
Moongoldy7568
true, hey koko how long do i have to wait before i can put my goldies back in there tank so i can take them out of the bucket
koko
How long has the tank been up and is this starting from the beggining?
Moongoldy7568
just did the sanitizing yesterday.
koko
Have you filled it up? with water, gravel, let it run with out the fish, added anything to it?
Moongoldy7568
its fulled up. i used aqua safe, coppersafe for stress, i dont have any rocksin there besides some small rocks. and some fake plants.
koko
Is it filtering?
Moongoldy7568
yes it is filtering. i am using a whisper 5-15 gallon filter overhead system
koko
im sorry to be nosey but how big is the tank and how many fish in this tank will be going into it?

Tank should atleast cycle for 24-48 hours before adding fish. When you add fish it should really only be one fish every week but how many are there?
Moongoldy7568
2 in each ten gallons. i have two ten gallon tanks, i will hopefully one day have a bigger one lol.GIF
koko
So your trying to place two goldfish in a ten gal tank and you have two ten gal tanks>?
Moongoldy7568
i have four goldies i am going to place two in each tank
koko
Well its going to be very hard, Since I know you know that goldfish need 10 gals per goldfish.
I would if I were you add one goldfish per tank every 24-48 hours to let the tank catch up.
Then your going to have to do water changes by the test results, Which since the tanks will be over stocked I would be doing everyday at first and then atleast every other day to every three days.

Live plants will help in the nitrate levels...... biggrin.gif
Moongoldy7568
koko thanks for everything
koko
No problem any time biggrin.gif
Moongoldy7568
just did what you said and some scales are missing
Moongoldy7568
is this cause i had two plecos with the four in a five gallon bucket is this because two of the goldies have missing scales. huh.gif
koko
you added some fish?
Moongoldy7568
and there color is faded too ohmy.gif
koko
Oh dear. Plecos and goldfish dont mix they love the slim coat to much and will lach onto them. The scales could have been from the pleco or just the fact of them bumping up to each other.
I didnt know you had a pleco. Plecos need atleast a 50 gal tank they can get upto 10" long and need wood to survive.

This might be a long haul for you.

I think it might be your choice but I would get the pleco away from those goldfish ASP. rolleyes.gif
Moongoldy7568
is it possible someone could adopt my plecos
Fu_Jin_Yu
What I find odd is that there are still alot of stores convincing people they need plecos. to keep their tank clean and free of algae. lol.GIF Doesnt matter what fish you buy and they try telling you this it seems.

Its seems like a side order almost...Even If you buy just a ten gallon setup ...its "You need a pleco with that".That is if you have them help you buy a setup or fish to go in it. lol.GIF

Speaking of pet shops...I had a guy that worked there try to tell me that a large orange comet was not a comet but a common because it had a shorter tail. And that the orandas were fantails. He said that they were fantails since they had no head growth. But obviously 1 inch or so orandas dont have a head growth yet and if they do its just barely starting and hardly noticeable. And comets come in longer and shorter tailed varieties. But comets always have that scissor shaped to their tails while commons have that very rounded shape to their tails.I tried explaining these things to this guy and he got all huffy and told me I was wrong. lol.GIF
Moongoldy7568
thats funny
dahnuh
LFS might buy the pleco off of you. I've sold plecos that outgrew my dad's 55g tropical tank. They don't give you much for them, but if you're willing to take store credit you'll get a bit more. main thing is you're getting him away from the goldies and into a place better suited for him. You can put otos in to do the pleco's job in the tank, assuming that your goldies aren't the type to attack the otos.
