Full Version: Hood Question-ok To Get Wet?

I just wanted to make sure it was ok to get the glass that goes over the light bulb on the underside of my aquarium hood wet?

My bubble wall sort of creates a little spray that keeps the underside of the hood wet, and I am assuming that is ok since I would hope they would make the hoods water safe since they are meant for aquariums. But I have never had a tank with a lighted hood before, so I just wanted to make sure.

It might get better when my hood is more straight, right now it is on a little crooked since my in0tank filter has a hook that won't allow it to sit flush. I don't want to punch out a hole yet since I am going to get a new filter soon and it might require a different spot to be punched out. And with the way one of my cats is, the fewer spots she can stick her paw into, the better!

Thanks, I know I am being paranoid but I know my fiance will not be too happy if I burn down the house with my aquarium! blowup.gif

Hi jen!

Mine gets wet too from my bubble wall. I think it should be ok. Its not the actual light getting wet, but the plastic hood under the light right?

Do you have lids in your tank?My bubble wall sprays a lot of water too but since I have lids, the light hood never gets wet..... smile.gif I assume that since they are used for aquariums that they will be safe even if they got a bit of water? unsure.gif

Yeah, it is just the plastic thinng that goes over the compartment with the light in it, so i am assuming that should be ok.

Now, what do you mean by lid? You have a separate lid over the top of your tank and then have a lighted hood above that? Or do you just have a light sitting on top of a lid, like an all glass one or something?

The hood I have is black plastic and the light is actually a part of it. Sorry if I was confused by what you meant! It happens to me easily....

Yes I have separate glass lids to cover the tanks....they only have small openings on the corners. The light hood goes on top of the glass.
sorry,I didn't mean to confuse you biggrin.gif

I have a black lid with a piece of glass that the hood light sits on top of.

My hood has been soaking wet from day 1.
It is slimy and drips and all that.

The lights I am sure are even moist.... with this type of hood it would be hard to keep the bulbs dry also.

nothing has happened from it, so I assume it is ok. smile.gif

Thank you, I figured as much, but I don't want to wreck the hood, or worse, burn down the house! Thank you!
