hmm ok, so i got a newfish.gif for my dorm on monday... i cycled the tank a while back, and the water params are fine, and the fish is doing well... except that i don't think chubs knows that the fish food is for her (well i call her a her... not sure).

i usually buy tetramin fish food, but went with wardley's goldfish crumbles this time... the slow sinking kind. when i feed her, i usually presoak for about a min and then feed them, and they float for a while and then sink... but chubs doesn't touch it. i'm beginning to worry that she doesn't know the fish food is for her. she's the only fish in the tank, and i've never had a goldfish that doesn't eat. plus she's been in there for three days, so i figure she'd be hungry. she does poop, so i guess she does eat some, but the majority of the food is just at the bottom of the tank. due to her lack of interest in the food, i usually only put in like 2-3 "crumbles". i've seen her go for the food once or twice, but she'll gobble, munch, and like spit it out...

so does she not like the food? should i try flakes? i'm so lost! i don't understand. blink.gif

Some fish take a bit time when switching from one food brand to the other, or from floating food to sinking, and vice versa. I would give her a bit more time, or try soaking the food in clam sauce or garlic.
Of course, spitting out food could also mean some problem with her gills. What colors are the gills - pink, darkred, very pale? Are they all nicely in visible pieces, or is it pretty hallow in there, with nothing to see when the gill flaps open? When they get infected or injured, chewing hurts the fish, and he spits the food back out. I would give it another day or so first before we investigate potential gill problems.

hmm ok, well i got some goldfish flakes, and she seems to like those better. perhaps that is what they fed her at the pet store. she still spits it out though after she eats it though.

i tried to check her gills, but she is a very small fish and can't really see them.

Yeah, it took Cracker a couple days to eat her pellets. Now she won;t eat the flakes!

ok, well it's just that it's almost been a week... i guess we'll just see. unsure.gif

switch back to the old food then, she may not like the new one.

My goldies don't like carrots and they spit that out. If I put in pellets and daphnia in at the same time. If my fish accidently gets some daphnia she spits it out and eats the pelets, and haves the daphnia later! They are greedy but very picky fishies.

thanks for your advice lillypetal... unfortuantely chubs died back in november. i left her with a friend for thanksgiving break, and she died the day before i got back. sad.gif i'll keep that in mind for future use though! smile.gif
