hey
i was wondering if it would be safe for me to cover the bottom of my tank with glass marbles

i was thinking they'd look like bubbles in the water and as a safety thing they would be too big for the fishies to get in their mouths

what do you think??

as far as i know its not a good thing to have marbles in your tank but some one else can explain you the details

Unsafe rocks: Coal, Coral, Dolomite, Fools Gold, Fossils, Limestone,
Marble, Sandstone

by the way there is a pool posted about rocks and marbles are mentioned there as well

I had round ones like the second pic (except mine were all teal colored) that I took some from my nieces fish tank and put them in my betta tank before and all the fish were fine. Theres no sharp edges or anything on them to hurt the fish and as long as the fish cant choke on them I dont see how they can harm the fish. Its just glass and that doesn't have anything bad in it.

My roommate Betta tank came with marbles just like the second pic...why would they be bad?...no sharp edges, too big for the fish to eat, glass is neutral...I could see it being a problem if they broke but I've never been able to break those things and I tried when I was a kid.

Isn't the marble mentioned above different than the little glass balls that kids play with? I thought the marble above was like marble that would have originally been part of a big slab--like the stuff you can use for countertops, etc.

I thought the little round marbles were ok as long as they are not broken?

The round playing, decor marbles are fine to use. I have used them with no problems. They are just made of glass....I agree that the slab marble is what is mentioned as not safe to use. I like the idea of looking like bubbles in the tank....I would love to see pics if you do it! biggrin.gif

i have had glass marbles in one of my tanks for almost a year with no problems. Mr. hiccup likes to push them around and make them clunk against each other.
I would be worried if the marbles were painted though. But I haven't seen too many of those.

Yeah, I think the marble that your not supposed to use is the stuff that some people use as countertops.

I use the glass marbles from the craft store in my betta tank. No problems with them at all.
