Ok, yet another problem. Ugh.

I woke up and looked at the coldwater tank, and it seemed kinda cloudy. But I am not a morning person so I didn't think much of it until just now, when I see it is still cloudy and hey! The filters not working. It is plugged in, and the bottom where the motor is is very, very hot. I unpluged it and took it apart, is there any way I can salvage it?

Its a month old aqua tech 10 filter. I use sand in that tank, could sand have fried my motor? But I know other people use it with no problems. Hmmm...

Until then, I best get doing water changes, that tank is overstocked with snails. krazy.gif

Yes - it is entirely possible that the sand got into the filter motor and jammed it up.

If it has not burned out totally, and it may not have, you can take it all apart and clean it carefully. Then try it again. Prime it up nicely and give it a go. It might work.

It is possible that the impellor was not centered properly or something, too. It is worth taking it apart and cleaning it and trying again.

Good luck.

Mmmmk, I'll try it. For now, I took a filter off the goldfish tank for them.

*sighs* I wonder if this thing has a waranty? I can't afford another filter right now. sad.gif

sad.gif Sand definately isn't good on filter's. If you have a tank full of snails, you may even need something even stronger than what you're using. Is that a 10gal. that we're talking about?
Chishower
Yep its a 10. I know that that little filter really isn't strong enough, but I compensate with lots of water changes. There isnt any way to put a bigger filter on there without soddering out a bigger hole. I have the hood off right now and I dont like it.

I hear ya on the hood issue... 2 nights ago I Had to use a heated red hot butcher knife to alter my hood LOL. Luckily with a lot of hard work it worked biggrin.gif

I hope you can get it working again, or maybe someone near you can loan you one for a while.
