Well as some of you know, I had a huge outbreak of Ick that I am dealing with at the moment. Well I noticed that some of the fishies are getting ragged fins and/or tails. I have the salt up to 0.3% and the heat is about 82*-84*. Ive heard that this happens when the parasites fall off. Is this true? krazy.gif

I am also currently treating for parasites and have my tank salted to 0.3%. One of my 2 fish has developed a rather ragged tail. (I have been salting for about 2 weeks.)

I would guess that the salt is playing a part in this. Hopefully one of the experts can answer for sure!!

Good luck with your treatment!! biggrin.gif

Yes that can be normal with ich and other parasites. Try and not worry about the fins unless you see red streaks in them. If you see that you should start feeding a medicated food.
Alot of illnesses make the fish's fins fray or tear.

Hang in there with the ich. I might lower the temp to 80 degrees though, it isn't a good idea to go above that. Higher temps decrease oxygen greatly not to mention how hot that must be.

I cant lower it. I dont even have the heater on! Its just how it is in my apt.

Oh, well then I would definitely watch that. You may want to have a fan on near it or a frozen water bottle to cool it down.
However when a fish is sick changing temps can make them worse. So I don't know if I would mess with it, just keep an eye on it.

I will, thanks so much Laurie!
