I've never had a fish come down with popeye adn I don't want him to develope dropsy. How do I cure him? What do I do until I can get meds? What if I can't get meds?
I put him in Chico's tank, since his is filtered (sort of, undergravel) and the light keeps the water a little warm (warmer than room temp)
I dont' want him to die. What do I do? I don't know how to handle this. I just noticed that his eye looked funny, thenI looked it up here and its popeye!
Somebody help!!!

Hey Anic, sorry to hear about your Betta. The only way that I've ever cured popeye was a combination treatment of both Maracyn and Maracyn II. Popeye is a bacterial condition, and definately needs medicine. If I were you,I'd do a good water change,up the temps to a warmer level, and get those Meds started as soon as possible before it brings any other secondary infections. Good luck!

The tank he's in is one gal. I dont' have a heater that small. Does Petco have the Maracyn I & II? If not, there's no way I can help him get better. We don't go to town until tomorrow, so I can't look for meds until then. This sucks.

Anic, PetCo should have those meds. I hope that he gets better!

I hope it isn't too expensive: I've only got $15 to spend. Oh... Well, I upped the salt a teeny bit. I'll go do a water change now. I guess upping the salt was a waste.
Oh, man...

I don't think that Salt is really going to do anything for him right now. Is there a place around the house that stays warm, where you can place his tank?

His tank is next to the 10 gal (under my bed) the vent is a few feet away from my bed so the heat blows straight across to those tanks. It stays warmer than the other Betta tanks. The only tank with a heater is the 29 gal. Rue is already in there. Besides, I dont' want to expose the big goldies to the bacteria that caused him to get sick.
I've changed his water and re-salted. I filled the tank with slightly-warmer-than-usual water. He's perked up a little since the change. Makes me feel a little better.

Will your parents lend you a few bucks? When I bought the maracyns the total was just over $16

I can scrounge up a couple bucks in change. I've always got change.
I think it's too late to cure him. I might just be paranoid, but I think that scales on his head by his right eye are poking out a little.
edit: can I only buy one Maracyn or do Ihave to buy both?

Ok, no Maracyn. But I found some Melafix. And of course, I find out later that I also need Pimafix. Grr. Well, I'm gonna go give him some medicine now. I hope it makes him feel (and get) better.
edit: he's got his medicine now. I really hope he gets better.

Does the poking scales on the right side of his head mean dropsy is developing?
Does it? I wish I had pics to show.

He's doing better. It's gone down quite a bit. Thought I'd give an update.

That's good

Honestly, I didn't think that the melafix would work, but I'm glad he's showing improvement!!! Keep us posted

I think the scales DP mean dropsy, but since they're going down he should be alright, because if it IS dropsy you've nipped it in the bud.

His head looks a little swollen. No scales poking out anymore. His eye is almost back to normal-sized. It's still a little poofy, though.
I can't start celebrating yet.....
