I just got my goldfish and put him in a tank and all that great stuff.
Left his water out over-night and put in some chemical stuff to take away chlorine.
I put him in the tank with the water and he was alright yesterday but today he is acting really weird. He stays at the top of the tank to breathe.
I have no clue what to do. Do I need to change the water again or what?
Someone help me cause I know nothing about taking care of goldfish.
Thanks heartpump.gif

Hi there and welcome to Kokos,
Most of us started where you are and discovered Koko's when we needed help. Hopefully you will enjoy your stay and learn loads.
Can you let us know a bit more about your set up. How big is your tank, do you have a filter, any air supply, bubbles ect.
Did you buy your fish and put him straight into the tank.
If we start from there thaen get more info if needed.
At the moment its sounds if one of the probs may be lack of oxygen in the water.
Post back soon

Hi and welcome. It is great you are here to find out what is going on with your fish. AS mentioned above most of us land here because our fish aren't doing well.

While waiting for you to give us a little more info I will go over a couple things for you.

Water quality is everything to a gf. They are very messy and produce alot of waste that can make them sick or kill them. That is why it is recommended that 1 fancy gf be in 10 gals of water each. A common gf needs 20 gals each. Hopefully you were aware of this.
Next, testing the water each day while it is cycling is a must. A cycling tank can easily kill a fish.
Tests you will need are ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and PH. Also tests for hardness is also recommended.
Are you familar with cycling a tank? If not we can help you there too.

GF are very prone to digestive problems, especially the fancy kind. Swim bladder disease is common. You can help to prevent SBD by soaking the gf food and making sure it sinks instead of float on top for them to eat it.
They also like a variety of veggies and fruit in their diet.

GF need filtration of 10 times the gallons an hour. For instance a 10 gal tank needs 100 gals of filteration an hour.
Also an airstone to provide plenty of oxygen to the water.

I think that is enough for now, hopefully you can post back soon and we can help you further. wav.gif

I, too, would like to welcome you to Koko's. But, since you are a new member, I have no other way to contact you but by posting here.

Could you please change your screen name before you get too many more posts to your count? The name you have chosen is not appropriate for this site.

Your immediate attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I have no clue how big the tank is but I know for sure its probably too little for him. He is a pretty big fish. Not as big as a pond goldfish but you get the idea I guess.
I know that my first problem. The tank came with a pump but its missing a piece so there is no bubbles in the tank.
I didnt buy my goldfish, I won him at the fair biggrin.gif
And I didnt put him straight into the tank. I left him in the bad over-night so the water in the tank could sit and get rid of the bad chemicals.
Ive had little goldfish before and they never live past 3 days and Im in love with this one cause he is so huge and I really dont want him to die.
And I know NOTHING about taking care of fish this big.
If I get a bigger tank and a pump that actually has all the pieces will that help???
