Well, my manager informed my of yet another reason why feeding goldfish to larger fish and reptiles is bad. Their skulls are hard to digest, and so can actually block the intestinal tract of carnivourse! She recomends feeding minnows (fathead and rosies)

Very interesting... she also said its one of the number 1 killers of lionfish. So tell that to the next person who tells ya where to toss your goldies (people are meanie heads!)

That's good to know, and something no petstore I've ever been too has hinted at. Is there somewhere I can get more information on that? I have a pretty good Petsmart in my area and I know they would like to have the info, even if they don't stop selling feeder goldies.

I also heard that goldfish are like "junk food" to carnivorous fish. Are they not nutrious or what? I've never seen an actual *overweight* fish.

ya, their all scales and fat. things like shrimp, krill, silversides, etc are much better for meat eaters

They have high levels of...thiamine? I think? I cant remember exactly, but a diet high in goldfish has been shown to cause nerological problems in garter snakes.

eeew.. I know a lady that used to feed goldfish to her pirhanas... I hope the meanies got a blocked-up butt or two from goldie-skulls.
