Err all the ones sold here come with everything, you dont need to buy anything! All the ones i've bought come with all the media, which is more than enough. The only thing you might need to get with an odd canister is more filter media.

mine came with everything needed although I was told by an experianced koi, goldfish, reef keeper that the carbon they give you is rubbish and he recommended either buying chemi-pure and putting it in or buying more biomax.
hope this helps

What kind are you getting?
To give you an idea, I have 4 Fluval cannisters - some of the older 30.. series and a couple of 404's. Each time i've purchased them, they've come with a very handy and helpful set of instructions and diagrams which makes it easy to assemble
The diagram numbers each part then shows how and where they all go...
The best thing to do is once you get it, if you then have any questions, post back and all us Fluval people will jump in with some help.
It's hard to explain without a live sample in front of you but trust me you shouldn't have any problems tho if you do - just holler

fluvals come with everything you need to get it set up and running.
if i were you, the only thing i would get are extra carbon, ammo-rid media, and the bio thingys (i dunno what its really called), and little bags so you can reuse the bags when you get rid of the old media.
you might as well pick these things up since your already in the store.
but thats just me.

I don't understand how the water "goes in" the cansiter filter and "comes out"...I mean, do you need a powerhead? I *thought* i read something about you need an overflow system to contribute and distribute the water from the tank?...Help please lol. thanks for any help.

In a fluval water flows down to the filter by gravity,
Inside the canister filter there is a magnetic impeller that pushes water back up to your tank.
Overflows are used primarily in reef aquariums since reef aquariums work in a very different way, overflows are used in conjunction with a wet/dry filter sump.
i hope this helps in some way

It does!!! Thanks so so much!!!
Do you need any other plumbing objects with the filter besides air tubing to make it work?

you do not need any other plumbing items for the fluval
i do not believe air tubing is neccessary, the package comes with tubing to connect the filter to the outlets/inlets (spray bar thing/tube w/prefilter thingy bob)
