I'm confused as to the salt dosage per gallon. I've found on this site that its one teaspoon per gallon or a tablespoon for five gallons but 3 teaspoons equal one tablespoon. It it truely were a teaspoon per gallon then it would be a tablespoon and 2 teaspoons for five gallons. All this confuses me...does the salt need to be more dilute when you have more water? I'm confused as to what I would use if I ever have to salt my tank, I've got a 30 gallon.

Yeah that confused me too. I have a 37 gallon and have had to salt twice--once while cycling and I'm salting now because of parasites. I've stuck with the 1 tsp per gallon and they seem to do fine.

Maybe someone can explain 1 tsp per gallon vs 1 TBSP per 5 gallons. Doesn't add up in my book either! Good question.

The difference actually lies in imperial and US measurements. The tablespoons per 5 gls actually bring it closer to the actual 0.1% I think if I remember correctly. Captk once ran the math for me. I'm no mathmetician, lol! Generally speaking, if we think about it, sometimes we have the disease known as CRS... rofl3.gif *cough* then its wise to remind folks to allow for the gravel and any ornaments displaceing water volume also. A salt test kit is also a big help in keeping it as close to or spot on the doller! smile.gif

Accordingly, amounts have been used up to the 0.5% range without problems and sometimes is called for when things (noted in ich & Costia) are showing resistence to the lower amounts. So even at 1 tsp per gl, we have some safety (salt creep)allowance......

Yea I noticed the difference too and figured it was something to do with US measurements too!
I just do the teaspoon per gallon and it seems fine...... *shrug*
