I thought everyone would enjoy hearing this...good to see the wider world is finally realizing bowls are bad for fish!

It mentions in the article how an Italian paper reported that round bowls make fish go blind...any truth to that?

Hooray for Rome and it's goldfish! banana.gif

yay! biggrin.gif

The only part that might cause a problem is the walking of dogs three times a day, that might get hard for dog loving working people.

but the bowl part is great. They arent fit for goldfish life.

Haha, I was going to post this story but you beat me too it. Its good news.

Yeah for that! banana.gif I think Pope Benedict XVI should have intervened, wouldn't that have been interesting?
onefish3
Now how are they going to enforce people to walk their dogs 3 times a day?

It's great about the bowls and the no fish prizes though. I'm surprised it's not done in more places here. I can't imagine California smiling on carnivals that give away goldfish as prizes.

I wish these were laws in the United States. That's great that Rome is doing this :3 The world needs more pet love!

I find it funny that they put the world cruel in quotations ("cruel") laugh.gif

that is awesome..I hope the states take to that banning of goldfish...just this sunday i was at a carnival and they had the goldfish bowl game...kinda made me sick to the stomach(remember when I was younger I loved that games and alsways won a fish or 4...and they lived a long time)

I think its great too, the dog walking thing is really a bit overboard though. Sometimes the good things get a little bit overdone, or shall we say overkill?

I think the going blind thing is probably one of those urban legend things, or a old wives tale so to speak, lol! Reporters have a knack for adding in such nonsense. Sort of the like the article in the newspaper someone posted earlier here. I think it was the SUN or something like that in Canada over banning goldfish bowls and the reporter made the statement of goldfish only haveing a 3 second memory.... dry.gif

At the time, although we all know better personally, it really need'd to have a scientific backup for truth, since then the proof has been backed up they do have very good memory. But still, things like that are said and repeated, 5 persons later, its distorted all out of porportion and becomes"fact" or "Belief", ten years down the road its still being tossed about as fact.... Kinda reminds me of some of the spam mails that keep getting passed along... rofl3.gif

yay for italy

i wonder if this will spread to the rst of the world somehow??

heres hoping smile.gif

Over here in the UK people can be prosecuted for mistreatment of animals through the RSPCA (Royal Society fo the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) working wih the police

and they can be fined and banned from keeping animals

i dont know if that runs to fishies tho

i would think so

anyway thanks for posting that

love

Glad to see that ALL citizens of Rome are granted equal rights! SPQR! exactly.gif

PS - I have always been very admiring of the RSPCA! They do a fantastic job! heartpump.gif But I do not recall them extending the same beneficence to GF... if we do protest, I am sure theyt will accommodate. I hope so!
littlefishyboy
yay!i feel bad for carnival goldfish-those in the states,if you want the goldfish to be banned, why not make a bill?seriously.

Many pets stores i got to have a lot of signes that say that Goldfish need AT LESS 5 gallons and that they should not be in a bowl. I think this is a step in the right direction.
