At the risk of asking an incredibly silly question...
I have to do it. I have a gorgeous black moor. Is there a way I can tell what sex it is? I've tried to find an answer here but may be looking in the wrong place.
Thanks!

There's a couple of ways of determining the sex of ur fish:
1. If ur fish is already mature (1 year+), a male will have breeding tubercles on his perctoral fins and gill plates.
2. A female will have an "outie" anus & a male will have an "innie" anus
3. A male's first ray of the pectoral fin is thicker than female's

Is that why my Rukin has those pin hole looking things on his gills?

He is definately a male. These are really tiny kind of white they don't really look raised like pimples and definately not the breeding stars. Looks like someone poked him with a pin several times on each side. We've had him a year this past July.
dmhosea I hope I didn't tread on your thread
