Does melafix heal missing scales or loss of colour on some of the scales?

Loss of colour is generally caused by poor water quality making them look a bit dull. Yes, Melafix treats missing scalesand also wounds

Melafix is an all-around anti-bacterial agent. It helps clear up fungus and fin rot, as well as wounds and ripped fins.(and missing scales in your case(. It will not make the scales grow back, it will just keep it from getting infected I have had a lot of success with it personally

There is new evidence that melafix really has no anti bacterial effect at all. However it does promote growth and healing of fins, scales etc.

Ive read that too, Luke. Also Melafix doesnt seem to get rid of any sort of fungus, at least in my cases. But like Sara said, its excellent at healing injuries quickly and keeping them from getting infected. I keep a big bottle on hand at all times.

Oh sorry, Im not sure about finrot, I didnt mean to make it sound like it wont help that. I think it still does. I just havent had any results as far as helping fungus. It didnt do anything for my fish. But as far as healing its done a great job for me!

Well i'm not surre about the fin rot, but i don' think it will actually get rid of it(it's bacterial). Although after the infection is treated it will help your fishs fins grow back quicker.

I've had excellent results using it to halt finrot, and it's made from melaleuca alternifolia which is a natural antibacterial agent. It certainly seems to help with a lot of fish ailments, but I've yet to try it against any sort of fungus.

It is proven recently that it is not bacterial, but it is still a good healing agent.

I'm fairly certain that Melafix *is* anti-bacterial. It contains melaleuca alternifolia which is the scientific name for tea tree oil, a widely used anti-bacterial agent, also with minor antiseptic properties. It has been used in alternative therapy and herbal treatments for centuries for this very reason. Luke-where did you hear otherwise? I'm pretty sure it can't be true. This is why it is effective on external fungal and bacteria related problems and promotes healing.

Check Koivet, Doc Johnson has done some studies on it and found it a very good agent to promote tissue healing. However in the case of bacterial infection it did little or nothing to stop the spread and cure the infection.

Well everyone, melafix has worked wonders for me. It has healed fungus as well as fin rot. Everyone has different experiences and just becuase Doc Johnson says it doesn't heal fungus, doesn't mean it doesn't! I am joking

There is no harm trying it however in my experience it did absolutly nothing. I have tried using it on numerous occasions and have had no succes with it whatsoever.

I was amazed by how its fixed my betta's fungus!
I think it really depends on the severity of the disease/condition and also of your water parameters (tropical vs cold water may be a factor).

Well maybe but i am convinced that it is just coincidences that it seems to work. And by the way my tanks are heated to 77 degrees farenheit . maybe the temp does have something to do with it.
