Guys...what do I do for Hard Water? My tank is perfect as far as all the other factors when I do my water tests, EXCEPT my water appears to be a little too hard - what do I do?

Hi,

Water hardness can sometimes be a good thing, with regard to pH stability. Would it be possible for you to post the hardness readings as well as pH readings?

Goldfish can tolerate a wide range of temperature and pH, provided it is quite steady, so having hard water may be OK.

Do post back.

STABILITY is more important than a targeted water parameter.

I have kept goldfish in very hard water with no ill effects. In fact they seemed to enjoy it.

If you still want "softer" water check out my distilled water theory in this thread.

Some aquarist use peat to soften water. It can turn the water a yellow or brown color but this is easily removed with carbon in your filter. The peat can be allowed to soak in water you intend to add to your tank, put in a filter bag and dropped in your filter, or set in a corner of your tank and allowed to dissipate into your water.
