Hello, I am new to Golffish keeping. I have had a lot of experience when I was a youngser keeping Tetra. Now I live in Korea. I started researching Goldfish stuff a few days ago and found out about the so-called "dojo loach" everyone says is so neat and a good tankmate for GF. So I walked over to the local store and asked if he had any of them... He looks at me shocked and takes me downstairs to his "creepy" fish area and theres a massive fish tank with four 3 foot loaches!! When I saw them, I immediatly recognized them as the same fish that Koreans just looOOoOooove to eat with alcoholic drinks. There are dojo loach restuarants all over the place. They even dry them and chew on them all day.

Anyway, how do you guys keep these things? Obviosly the young are small, but how big do yours get? My tank will only be a 60 gallon. Can I fit 4 GF and 2 little Dojos?

thanx

ohmy.gif 3 foot long???? That's kind of scarey!!! crap.gif The Loaches we talk of here in the states as far as I've had,or read don't get anywhere near that.I think their maximum size is around 8 inches from what I've read, Mine are all around three/four inches I guess. I did recently post some sites of pics from China, etc. and over there the Dojo is raised pretty much like the american feeder fish-with the intent of feeding them to bigger fish,or people actually eating them because that's also very "everyday practice " there too. ohmy.gif

You can go to any supermarket in Korea and go to the fish section and theres a giant open red plastic bowl filled with hundreds of slithering dojo loaches. I usually dont eat fish, but they like to slip dojo loaches into Daenjang Chigae so I have tasted it. Its pretty good. Its considered very healthy in Korea.

Talking to the local fish guy, he said those fish come locally from the rivers so I shouldnt buy one at the market and put it my tank because they are filled with disease and parasites. His really big one came from a breeder. Its 7 years old.
