My ammonia level is wayyyyyyyy down from 2.0 to 0-0.25 ppm ! This is wonderful!

I started my fish on maracyn two, have been adding 1/4 tbsp of salt and performing 50% water changes for the past 3 days now. would any of that (besides water changes) have anything to do with my ammonia level? I am treating a fish for Dropsy. (which i believe the ammonia caused his illness) His appearence is the same but yet he is very active and eating well.

I am so happy my ammonia is down!!!! Yippie!

Now is when you need the salt. When the ammonia disappears, the nitItes should be showing up. Salt will protect your fish against nitrIte poisoning. Keep adding the salt until the nitrItes disappear.

Yea, those saltwater/freshwater cards can be confusing. I don't know why I don't throw away the saltwater cards since I don't have any marine tanks! laugh.gif

I hate being a newbie! Can't wait to be the one to give advice!

Are you sure it is not nitrAtes that are measuring zero? When your tank initially cycles the ammonia levels rise first, then nitrItes, then nitrAtes. See the graph at the top of the page that shows how one falls and the next rises?

Are you measuring any nitrAtes?

awesome. Ammonia at 0 is ALWAYS a great thing.
