I have 2 dojo loaches and a rubberlip in my goldie tank right now and after reading so many people suggest bristlenoses for good algae control, I was wondering if one would be ok in the tank with them? My brown algae has gotten alot better lately, but a little help in the cleaning dept is always welcome! biggrin.gif

How big is your tank?

In a fairly large tank, with lots of hiding places, you should be OK.

It's a 75 gallon tank. Thanks smile.gif

Hi Ginger,

Don't wanna hijack your thread but I wanted to ask what the advantage of having a dojo loach in a goldie tank is?So sorry if it sounds stupid but are they algae eaters? Thanks for any help biggrin.gif

A 75 gallon tank is great, and you should have no problems keeping all of your bottom dwellers happy in a tank that size smile.gif

Hi Cathy, I think there really is no "advantage" for having them. They are not algae eaters. I did a search and read about them and they just sounded cute and they do add more activity to the tank. They eat pro-gold like my goldies and they make me laugh because when they are eating, it reminds me of a rabbit with their whiskers twitching. rofl3.gif But they don't help me clean the tank, and I have read alot about bristlenoses being great at that.....so that has me thinking I may need one of them too! biggrin.gif

Thanks for your help touchofsky! smile.gif

biggrin.gif The main reason for having Dojo's in your Goldie Tank,is simply entertainment and amusement. They make me laugh out loud sometimes. laugh.gif My Regular Dojo's tend to be a little shyer than my Albino ones. Those guys never stop. They play with the Goldies constantly and never sit still for very long. Here's a pic of mine. smile.gif user posted image

Yes, I consider my dojos the clowns of my fish collection. They really are funny little critters 9.gif

Sharon, those albino dojos are just so adorable. I have never seen anything like those around here sad.gif

I haven't seen the albino ones either! dry.gif Very pretty. heartpump.gif
Yea, thanks to Devs, I found out not to expect them to be algae eaters before I got them, but I just had to go ahead because they sounded (by reading) so cute! And they are! Very entertaining too! biggrin.gif I was wishing I could get a pic of both of mine (the kids named them Dojo & Jojo), but the other one wasn't having it. The one above has lines down his side and the other is spotted with dark spots.
Sharon, I remember reading about one of yours hitting the pet store floor when you went to get him. Lo and behold, while the guy was getting mine, one jumped out on the floor from the container he was putting them in. He put that one back though 'cause it took him what seemed like Forever to catch him....he was a Stubborn bugger! rofl3.gif

I am soooo tempted to get a couple after all this talk and seeing pics biggrin.gif Those albinos look really cute...hmmm...do they need special care? unsure.gif

laugh.gif Ginger,Dojo's are the Houdini's of the tank. They are known for finding ways out of your tank, and as you've seen, they are fantastic Squirmer's and jumper's/I had three reg.,and two (They actually call them Golden Loaches) in my tank. One of the regular's disappeared quite a while ago....No signs of him were anywhere.I have two regular ones in one of the smaller tanks too.I think I'm going to add those two with these guys.My regular's were the first ones to share the tank with the Goldies.Til this day,One has a very big kink in his tail, from my Goldies thinking he was dinner. Now the two reg. Loaches come out when the tank gets dark. The golden's will act up all day long/they'll be right in front of the tank looking to see if I'm feeding them, chasing the Goldies, and they occasionly knock a Brig Snail around a little bit-you know likeBrig Tag"? rofl3.gif Val, Sorry to hear that you don't see them-they have even more personality than any of my other Loaches. Cathy, the only special care that I give them,is to make sure that their Params are in check, and I scatter the Goldie Food so that they have a shot at the Pro-Gold! rofl3.gif They love all the things your fish eat,and believe it or not, mine love peas!

Thanks!I'll be on the look out for albinos..just can't get over how cute they are exactly.gif

I'll keep an eye out for the albinos. Sometimes unusual things do show up at the larger fish stores in the area. I just have to be lucky and be there at the right time biggrin.gif

My dojos eat everything the goldfish do, too, including peas and other veggies laugh.gif Dojo see, Dojo eat rofl2.gif

rofl3.gif Brig Tag....that's good! rofl3.gif Mine stay out most of the time. I see them come out of their little hiding spot in the morning when I start feeding. They and my rubberlip eat progold, spirulina, peas....well whatever I put in there laugh.gif right beside my goldies. I have heard about the disappearing acts....but so far, so good! biggrin.gif
