One of the two fish that I rescued about a week ago is not doing good. He was looking better about two days ago after I treated him for parasites. I also was feeding him medigold, and had salted the water (1tbls to 5 gal). I have been doing 50% or more water changes every day. Today he is sitting on the bottom, with his fins down. He isn't moving much. He also appears to have a haze over his eyes. I have put him in 80% new water. I also added the salt back. He is still sitting on the bottom. Do any of you know what is wrong, or what I can do to help him? This is a little guy, and he deserves a good life, if I can only get him into good health. His friend that I got at the same time, is doing much better! He has fattened up, and has become perky. He also has had some color improvement. Please someone help, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. cry3.gif

Hi ruffledmumkin,

So sorry to hear this....what were you treating him for?Have you tried a salt dip? When one of my fish was listless staying at the bottom and had cloudy eyes,I gave him 1% salt dips and it really perked him up...how big is he?
Ruffledmumkin
He was in qt because I got him form walmart about a week ago. He had lice, and who knows what else. I have been adding 1 tbls of salt per 5 gal. He is only 2 in at most. I think he is a oranda, but I'm not sure since he is so small. I checked on him, and he is just sitting on the bottom next to the air stone. sad.gif This is so sad! I really was excited about him getting better, and that he would be able to join my other fish in a 3 weeks. Now I don't know if he is even going to make it through the night. One other thing, he is outside in a qt tank, and it is about 80-85. Is that too cool, should I add a heater? They said it might get down to 75 tonight! Please help! I'm so desperate to save this sweet little fish! cry3.gif

80 is good as long as it doesn't fluctuate.A big drop can stress the fish so you might want to get the temp steady at 80.This will also boost his immune system to fight whatever is ailing him.Okay since he is a small fish,a salt dip may not be a good idea. You should try to raise the salinity to 0.3% and see how it goes...
Ruffledmumkin
How much salt would it take to get the salinity to 0.3?

You are now salting at 1 tbsp. per 5 gallons which is 0.1%...you can add another 1bsp. per gallon now to bring it up to 0.2%.After 12 hours, repeat and that will bring you to 0.3%.I sure hope he makes it...I know how hard it is to see them sick.My thoughts are with you and your fish heartpump.gif Good Luck 00001649.gif

Before trying any meds, check the water quality. If everything works out fine there then leave him for a couple of weeks and keep the water in really good condition as cloudy eye should pass with great water quality.
Sress could be whats wrong especially with all the problems and moving around he has had to take.

He is in great water. I'm going to add the salt today, and see how he takes it. I really don't think he is going to make it through today. He is having trouble staying on his belly. sad.gif

Thanks guys! My other fish I have had about 8-9 months. She is acting fine, but has a huge bump under her skin. It keeps getting bigger. I have no idea what is wrong. It took me almost 2 weeks to catch her to have a better look.
