So, ive been to just about every pet place that jax has to offer, ive called around and even had people there tell me they had ordered in the frozen foods. Yet when i go up there, they have no idea what i am talking about.

SOOOOOOOOOO, i decided to look around and see who offered what, and on the www.drsfostersmith.com site, they sell frozen foods. so they have something new called "Goldfish Diet" and its made my san francisco bay, it has:

PLUS it is $3.49 a piece, and i dont know about the prices where you are, but i can easily pay 5-8$ for each box. AND if when you order more than 6 you get a price break, and of course you want to order more because it ships next day air which is $20 no matter how much you order.

i was actually surprised at home much they just LOVED it! especially since i couldnt get them to eat carrots or zucchini on my own smile.gif guess im just not a good enough chef.
So i ordered 4 boxes of that and 3 of another. I got the price break for them all so the Goldfish Diet was $3.19 and the other one i ordered was called a "freshwater multipack", but i could have gotten it locally, just not for $5.99.

Let me know if you guys think that was a good plan? or what your own experiences have been with ordering frozen foods.

Sorcha, that indeed is a great idea! I had a look at the frozen foods shipping and prices from DrFosterSmith for a while now, and with the number of fish I have, it would certainly be worth while.
As long as they know how to package the frozen foods - it has to be frozen throughout the whole transportation process. Once it thaws accidentally, it can develop harmful bacteria. But you have probably more luck with the transportation than the bloodworms and stuff you'll get at any petstores - those get thawed on a regular basis here and there.
I saw a delivery once of frozen bloodworms that were thawed, and when I inquired about it, they said the truck was sitting in a warehouse with no A/C for hours. Of course the food thawed! sad.gif

Keep us posted on how the food arrived.... cool.gif

I have heard some excellent reviews (somewhere else) from people using that food! But, they bought the food locally. I would have liked to try it but from my experience with ordering BioSpira, the food will likely arrive unfrozen:

I do not know exactly what their packaging technique is but I am sure they would be happy to tell you if you called them! The shipping price for overnight (to stay frozen) will be hefty, though.

I have been using a gel food that has similar content to the foos listed above but has the advantage of of arriving in powdered form! www.mazuri.com. It only ocmes in really big sizes but sometimes at koi and gf shows they will give away samples. Maybe with enough consumer interest, they will start marketing a smaller size for non-commercial customers!

Let us know how it works out if you do try some GF Diet!

BTW - if you call the manufacturer, they might be able to tell you exactly where it is sold in your city! (is Sorsha a Persian name)? smile.gif

Heya guys!

Thanks for all the interest! Nah, it isnt Persian... atleast i dont think so, it was a figment of my own creative mind, until i searched it out and realized alot of people are really named it. :-D

As far as packaging went, it was WONDERFUL. I now have a new little styrofoam cooler, and like 15 icepacks, which were SOLID frozen when it arrived. and it really was next day air. All my foods were solid too. They also wont just leave your food there on your steps. If you arent there to collect it, they ship it right back to fostersmith. shippping was $19.99 so i didnt think that was so bad considering it did arrive so fast. and if you do have a problem, such as it arriving unfrozen, they will gladly take it back :-D

Cool, now that went well! They go quite the extra mile to make sure the food arrives in perfect condition, hm? thumbup.gif

Graham, I actually got a little test sample from Mazuri at their Orlando show - both from the carnivore and herbivore variety. They sold big buckets of the powder, like 20 or 30 lb or it! Thud.gif By all love to my fish, but that stuff would last me forever, and then some.
It was great though, fish loved it! I added the water accordingly, and it turned into a big blop of rubber, really not wobbly. Did you have the same experience?
Graham
Sorsha - Cool! THanks for letting us know how well it went! I may definitley give that a try knowing how well it is packed and how reasonable is the shipping price!
Let us know how the fish like it! What does it look like and how does it smell?!

RannchuGirl - Yeah, they only sell to zoos and other commercial businesses so the Mazuri is not available (yet) in even pond size! I was given a batch to try by a friend - thye have a group who orders one big bag and splits it! biggrin.gif

It did not work out for me the first time I made it as the directions state to add equal parts of powder and water by weight - I cook alot but I still don't have a liqiud scale lying around! So, I guessed - it came out badly - I reconstituted it and added two packs of gelatin (and I had already added water once). That worked. Now, I do equal parts power and water (1 cup - 1 cup) with one added pack of Knox gelatin. That works great. I think they do not add enough gel!
