Okay, I screwed up pretty bad yesterday. I did a 7.5 gal water change on my 20 gal in hopes of doing another today to get rid of some white cloudy water I've been having. I got pressd for time and completely forgot to raise the pH in the buckets of new water! (My tap has a pH of 6.4 with no buffers; I raise the pH in my tanks with baking soda and bags of coral.)
Now the two biggest fish are taking turns chasing the smallest, Linus, and Eli, the most aggressive larger fish, is also chasing Gideon.
What do I do? Should I try to bring the pH back to normal quickly, or would that irritate them even more? I've already added a 1/4 tsp of baking soda because I was worried, but it didn't seem to bring up the pH much. It may not have fully dissolved yet though. The usual pH in that tank is around 8.0--after the extra 1/4 tsp of bs the pH is still only about 7.6. Should I just wait on the crushed coral to bring it back up?
