Full Version: I Potted My Plants
Forum > The Goldfish Topics > Goldfish Tanks > Goldfish plants, & how to set up a planted tank
Maceo
Ok so I just potted my plants hoping that the fish will leave them alone and allow them to establish a root system. I put them in glass pots with aquarium sand and gravel. Please tell me they can live like this. I am having such a hard time getting them to stay anchored. Since they're in pots do I need to add fertilizer to them?

What kind of plants are they?

I pot all my plants and use JBL's 7 Balls (clay balls) in the bottom of the jars to fertilise them. It's great stuff.

My potted plants are melon swords and java ferns. Please tell me they will live. I am having such plant issues and I really like them. sad.gif

The swords will do fine in a pot, but the java ferns shouldn't have their roots planted. They should be tied to a rock or piece of driftwood, something like that, so that they can attach to it.

For the swords, you can push a root tab fertilizer down into the pot.

I hope this helps and please feel free to ask questions smile.gif

Ok thanks so much. What kind of rock for my fern? and how big?

You can buy a decorative rock from the aquarium store. Just get one big enough that the fern can be tied to it, then have enough room to grow smile.gif
