Hello everybody

newfish.gif
I bought one koi last week but i didn't know it was a koi.
He or she stays hided, so shy. sad.gif
I don't have a really big pond +/- 1000 liters and about 11 goldfishes.
I heared you always need to keep them in group because of "loneliness breakdown". rofl3.gif
Can anybody tell me if it is true and what do I have to do to make him or her happier?
Many thanks
Scott
Yes they do not like to be alone but I would imagine that all of those gold fish will keep him company. They just don't like being isolated.

Since you just got the fish this is why it is in hiding. Some are more shy than others but it'll warm up to you.

Welcome to Koko's Essene! biggrin.gif

Use a place like photo bucket to upload your pics to and then you can use the img. tag to post them here! Hope that helps! smile.gif

The Koi will be fine with the goldies, lots of company!
Scott
You have a frog! Cool, I tried to have frogs in my pond but either they didn't like it there and moved out or the fish got them sad.gif . I decided no more frogs. I love dogs as well, my dog (Roxanne) has a good friend that is a doberman!

Thanks for the complement on the pond, I'll be happy to answer any questions. It's more work than anything, but I think I've fixed some of the upkeep this weekend. I worked over the filter and I am in hopes that it wont clog up every day. I cleaned it on Saturday and didn't clean it today, that is a major accomplishment! This is the first day in over a year and a half that it hasn't clogged and needed cleaning. (just wanted to share this news, it's made me very happy)

On the pictures, Kathy is right use some place to upload your pictures then copy the address and paste it here with img on either side like this

[ IMG ] image address [ /IMG ] (without spaces)

Or if you click on the IMG button, located above the reply box that you type into, you can paste the address for your picture in the little box provided.

I use http://81x.com because it's free, I can easily use the pictures to make a web site, I've made 5 web sites on 81x and still haven't used up my alotted space. I honestly don't know what the space limit is? Then I copy the address from my picture there and paste it here.

If you need any help just ask!

Scott

essene
We follow the good advise and create a little page on the web site of 81X.COM.

Scott
Thanks for sharing your pictures. You have a beautiful pond and that is a BIG frog LOL. That is neat that it sticks around. If it were at my pond I'm sure it'd probably hop off somewhere else sad.gif .

The picture of the Doberman on the second page looks just like Roxannes (my dalmatian) friend Baily smile.gif very sweet dog.

Hello Scott also hello to Kathy and everybody,
it was very nice from you two to help us to put pictures: thanks
It is kind of you to say that the pond is beautiful but yours is a lot more : it is big with beautiful water and your fishes are big and I hope that once my koi will eat into my hand like yours do hi5.gif
I am glad that we may speak about the same passions (don't look too much the mistakes because I speak french and english is from school = a long time ago
It will be "silence radio" until fryday because my husband has to go to France for his work and take the pc with him.
so in a few days and have a nice day cool.gif
Scott
No problem with helping with the pictures. It was only for selfish reasons anyhow wink.gif I love ponds and fish and can't get enough of looking at them. If I see a magazine at the store with a pond in it, I buy it. I just have to inspect every pond there is! And your pond is beautiful, I enjoyed looking at the pictures. I think it is an odd addiction I have laugh.gif but I just can't help it.

Don't worry about errors in your posts, we don't care about that around here. This is a laid back message board smile.gif . We are just happy you joined! Besides anyone that can speak more than one language has me beat and my respect. I've tried Spanish, and was in Spain for a year, I can't really speak it.

sorry haven't been on in awhile. My computer is fried LOL I guess that means I need to hook my other one up sad.gif
How's your fish and pond? My fish are slowing down for the winter. I just bought some shade clothe to put over the pond to keep the leaves out. After the leaves all fall I'm going to take the shade clothe off the pond and hang it on the the underside of the pergola to shade the pond and hopefully cut down on the string algae. For some reason that stuff grows faster in the winter here than in the summer! Spring time is always a mess because of this. I'm hoping that this spring I wont have the task of harvesting string algae LOL.

Scott - Just wanted to say that I just saw your pond for the first time and it is BREATHTAKING!! WOW! ohmy.gif
essene
Hi Scott
The winter is coming here also we add a baby koi for the first koi. The first koi is not hiding anymore so much now not a lot but it's better than before. We have also algae but less in the winter. I have snails and they eat algae. Don't eat them anymore ignore.gif but put them into your pond LOL
I hope you find a good computer without blowup.gif
i found also an internet adress with dobermanns if you like to give it at the friend of Roxanne : http://www.dobermannpassion.be
Glad to ear you again
Scott
glitterfish, thanks. It was a lot of work so it's nice when I get good comments. smile.gif

Essene I have snails in my pond, I have thousands of them. I wouldn't doubt if they haven't set up a government and declared my pond their territory! I HATE the snails. They get in my filter and clog it up. If it wasn't for that little problem they wouldn't bother me. After all everyone needs someplace to live.

I'll pass on the web site, thanks

Scott
Tamianth
Hey Scott!

Dimlin I'm told, will rid the snails! Bet its physa's dry.gif , little football looking snails?

Was it a virus on the comp? I'm going to suggest a program to you, Spybot Search & Destroy! (make sure it this one and not the other gotta pay for it one) I've run it in conjunction with Norton and Incredimail , between the three, problem free! biggrin.gif

The next thing that really helps protect is if the isp has a postini set up to block virus laden spam mails from even getting to your inbox! Between the 3 programs, you block pop ups, hijackers, virus's, bad web sites, dialers and things that litterally sneak onto your computer without being seen!

What brand of comp is it? How is it fried?

Hi Essene! biggrin.gif Sorry to hijack this a bit like this. Hope I can help Scott a bit though! Wow, another new koi! Will look forward to new pics!

Hi everybody

You can use Hitman Pro II for checking and cleaning your computer, it is a free download and it works very good.
And updates are automatically (and also free)
http://www.hitmanpro.nl/
Good luck
Scott
essene,

how are things going for you and your pond? Since it's now winter my fish are in the bottom and I have shade cloth covering the pond so that the leaves can't get in. I do have two fish in a tank in the house. I can't wait for spring to get them in the pond! I hate this time of year, I need to live someplace that is warm all year round.

My computer is fried I've been using someone elses computer. I just haven't wanted to deal with mine.

it's not been a great winter here, how about for you? We had a couple of weeks of well below freezing weather so my upper pond froze solid which caused my water fall to over flow (lost a LOT of water). My heaters gave up and so then my 2inch pipes froze. I had to buy a heater for the pump house to keep things thawed in there and plus bought two more floating heaters for the pond. Of course after the two weeks of freeze it thawed and we are now getting un-seasonable warm temps. Lots of rain. What an odd winter.

Anyhow things are great now! smile.gif but I think I'm going to have to replace my pipe going to the bottom drain because of the freeze but I do have the pump going and water circulating.

How has your winter been thus far?

Scott
essene
Hi Scott

The winter is not too hard here in Belgium this year.
A few countries of the Western Europe got a lot of snow, much more than usual.
But the temperatures are not too low. A couple of day, it went below the zero Celsius. In Belgium, this winter not under -12°C (10°F).
We bought this year a little motor to inject air bubbles into the pond.
It didn't freeze at all thanks to this system.
Scott
The aerator (air bubbler) is a great idea. I bought one at the begining of last summer. I read that it helps keep the water healthy because aeromonis doesn't like to live in well aerated water. Aeromonis causes the ugly ulcers on and in the fish which can kill them fast.

Our temps are great now. It's generally in the mid 30's to mid 40's during the day. Fine with me, and I think the fish are okay with it as well wink.gif

I just hope it doesn't get real cold again. We've had more moisture this year than I've ever seen. It's amazing. Rain almost every day. The mountains are packed with snow, better there then here. So if the moisture keeps coming and if it does get back to normal cold temps I'm going to hate it! Snow is no fun!
