Hi, all breeding experts. One of my fry, about 15 "combunkins" (common/shub) has a double tail, I wonder if anyone has seen such a fish grown?? I had 2 but one died . I hope this one survives because I'm very curious to see how it turns out. I also have a couple of fry that falls on their side as soon as they stop swimming. They swim around and eat normally, but as soon as they stop.... Is that swimbladder damage and if so, is it permanent?? I just cannot cull them... Anyone knows???

Here is a pic! Monster with double tail to the left and Sideways to the right.

Goodness! The tail being double is probably a fluke (not parasite lol). I've Sheb/comet mix and have not seen any with double tails in my now hoard.
I'm not sure about the laying over at this point O.H. .. there so tiny right now it very well could be your right and the swim bladder isn't as developed as it should be!

Any that I had with sbd that recovered became stunted. But with just a slight tilt they may recover better, it may just be some slight developmental problem.

Well, the sideways fry have died now, I have another one very small, but it doesn't look good. The Monster fry isn't very active, it swims near the bottom but seems to do okay. It's a pity that the first monster fry didn't make it...

I hope your other monster fry will make it, Annette! There are just some things you can't do anything about - its just nature's course. In a perfect world all 100% of a batch of fry would be perfect little fish, but that just isnt' the way it happens. Even with the best care you can provide, there are things that are beyond your control.

Thanks! Yes I know that all of them might not survive but it's sad. Today I've counted to 12 fry, all active and eating, including Monster. So you think that Monster is a rare fish? Is it unusual for a common/shub to have a double tail? Oh I can't wait to see him grow big... I seem to get special fish all the time, maxi's kinda special too...

maybe on of the parents came from a fancy goldfish and he/she carried the trait on

Here's a pic of some of my fry, still not sure how many they are, between 10-15... My Monster fry is the pale one in the middle, it's so difficult to see the double tail in pics, hope he grows fast...

If I look really closely, I can see the tail difference between the two fry in the middle quite good. And if you ever miss a fish without finding a body, you know that Monsterfish ate it!
