Full Version: Cloudy Water?

My twenty gallon, which holds three 2 inch fantails (the length includes the tail) and a snail, started getting cloudy last week. There doesn't seem to be any kind of color to it so I don't think it's algae growth.
Here's the parameters:
nitrates: 5-10
nitrites: 0
ammonia: 0
pH: 8.0

I think it could be caused by the snail, which was added only 2 weeks ago, or the bag of crushed coral I keep in there to help with the kH.

The filter is a Whisper 30, and it has been having a problem developing mold just above the water line inside of it, but that's been going on a while. I also just wiped it clean this past sunday.

Any ideas? huh.gif

Maybe a bacterial bloom? My water suddenly got super cloudy I did two 50% water changes in two days and it cleared up. I would try that first.

Where would the bacterial bloom be coming from?

How long is your tank set up? Did you change your filter? Could be related to cycling. That is what mine was....

The tank's been set up and running since early January.

I changed the filter out a month ago, but with the media sponge in there and gravel, I'm pretty sure the cycle held up.

I am going to do what you suggested as soon as I have the time and some free buckets. My 29 gallon's ammonia keeps rising (probably because of a medicine that I put in there) and I'm desperately trying to keep it down.
Not to mention my little one's sick. (Like I said, it's pouring over here. At least I don't live on the gulf coast.)

Thanks for your help, Littleone78.

Good luck with both of your tanks! I hope the water changes help.
