I've got a couple questions about aging water. I try and do this with new water for at least my betta and tetra tank, since they seem to benafit a little more from it and their tanks are smaller. What is the suitable time length to age water? Also, am I supposed to add a dechlorinator before or after aging? Thanks smile.gif

i think aging water for at least 24 hours is the same as adding dechlor to the water, so u dont have to add anything after u leave the water sitting for about 24 hours

I do that quite often when I run out of 'Tap safe'. 24 hrs would be enough, 48 hrs will be perfect. Remeber to take off the lid of the container you are going to use.

I heard that leave water under sunshine for more than 5 hrs could do the same work, but I have never tried as there is not much sunshine in English. biggrin.gif

If you have chloramines in your tap water then you will still need to add something to take that out. Unlike chlorine it doesn't evaporate unless you let it sit out a lot longer, I think like a week.

I read it from a website so I'm hoping that its all true unsure.gif

I'd be too scared to risk not using dechlorinator, and I probably wouldn't try only letting water sit unless I was out of dechlorinator and there needed to be a waterchange before I would get a chance to go to an LFS. So, 24 hours seems good if I add a dechlorinator also. Does it matter when you add it?
