Yep, you definitely need to try the TS.
Yes, pull the scale back towards the tail. Clean with peroxide is fine. Then the polysporin. I hope it is not infected and it will be a clean wound.

OK, I'll do that tonight.
One more question. She's currently salted to 0.1%. Will the salt interfere with the TS?

Don't be scared.

Be strong for Gus. He needs you.

0.1% salt is fine. Don't worry about it.
It is 2am local time so I have to go to bed but I'll check back in the morning. Good luck!

Hah, it's funny you called her Gus... because her son's name is gus!
Yes, go to bed! I'll keep you posted!

Sorry, it was too late in the night and the brain has gone offline.

Be strong for Mrs Chubbs, that's what I meant.

Well, the offending scale has been removed. It was much easier than I thought it would be. I think it was more stressful on me than on her!
You're right, it was a clean wound; the scale came out with almost no effort. No pus, though the H2O2 did foam a bit when I dabbed it on. Then, a quick dab of polysporin, and back into the water she goes. She looked stressed for a second, but quickly went back to normal after some food
TS is in the water. Hopefully it will do the trick and clean her up. She's come this far, time to get her better!

Let's hope that we start to see some improvements. Fingers X'ed.

Well, I have leant something today about pulling scales, well done Squeeker. Mrs Chubbs sure has got dropsy, she looks like a pearlscale in that picture. I hope that removing the scale and using the TS will do the trick and she will get better soon.

I have to bring my computer into the shop today because it's really acting up. Hopefully no emergencies arise while I'm offline...
She's not as active today, and there's a red spot where the scale was. Still eatin' like a pig... and still as prickly as a porcupine.
Keep your fingers crossed...

Back...
Well, nothing new to report. Mrs Chubbs is still EXACTLY the same. Tonight is night 6 of TS. No news is good news, I guess... though I would have thought she'd be either better or worse by now! She's now been in QT for a whole month.

Repeat the dose if necessary, it won't hurt her. At least she is not getting worse. Another thing is that with TS you can double the recommended dosage for serious illness. LuvMuhFred used a double dose for 6 days and it did the trick for her.

I don't know if it's just me or not... and I don't want to jinx anything, but...
I think her swelling is going down!

Oct 6 2005, 05:44 AM
No, I never did. If she starts to get worse again, I will... but for now, since she's doing so well, I'll keep doing what I'm doing.
I leave this afternoon to go home for thanksgiving... I'll be gone til Monday night. My cousin is going to feed her and throw Prime in just in case the ammonia goes up. Hope I have a healthy fishie when I get back!
Happy Turkey day, everyone!

WOO HOOOOO!!
Came home from Thanksgiving vacation to find a much deflated Mrs. Chubbs! Scales are barely pineconing, and she looks like she's lost a lot of plumpness! She's looking back to her normal self!
How much longer should I continue the TS for? Don't want to over-do it...
Thanks!!!

Mrs Chubbs is finally responding! I would run a third and final course of TS and hope that Mrs Chubbs is back to normal by then. Good luck.
That's a great Thanksgiving present to find her getting better.

She's still looking better every day.
She's been a TEENSY bit more lethargic lately... but the weather has also gotten a lot colder. That could be the reason.
Tonight will be the 21st day of the medicated food. Should I continue to feed it to her? Or should I switch? Or, wait til this round of TS is done, which is on Friday?
Also, I quit salting her tank when the dropsy first started. Any reason to bring the level back up for any length of time?
Last question. How long until you think I'm safe to put her back in the main tank? IS it safe to do so? I don't mind giving her more time in the HT, but just wondered. I just thought I'd ask because I know that dropsy can be a chronic thing.
Thanks FIshmerized and captk for the technical know-how to get me through this... and thanks Littleone for the well-wishes! I can't believe she made it this far!

Well, tonight was her last night of TS. She looks FAB now! I'm so glad!
I'm going to stop the med. food and clean her tank all up.
I'd still like opinions on how long I should wait to put her back in the main tank, though...
Thanks!
