My my tailess fantail, Beautiful, seems to be acting strange. He seemed fine this morning, but as I was doing my homework, I turned around to notice him at the bottom of the tank, his fins looked clamped. I got closer to the tank, and he swam around normally. But then he went back to the bottom of the tank again.
I don't know what my water quality is like because my test kits ran out and they're really expensive...but I change my water once a week, about 20-25%. I have 5 fish in a 35 gallon tank. I am over stalked, but I am purchacing a tank that is 6 feet long, 2 feet tall, 18 fee wide. (does anyone know how many gallons that is?). They should be in there within 3 weeks or so. I have a proper filter for the tank..I know its the right one, but I can't think of the name off the top of my head.
Any help is greatly apperciated!! I don't want to lose my favourite rescue fish..he was doing so great..
Thank-you

My ranchu did that also, but im starting to think he's just resting.
Maybe give Beautiful a day or two, if there's nothing wrong in his behaviour in general, then he should be ok.
btw i think mean ur tank is 1.8 feet wide

so it's 6 feet x 2 feet x 1.8 feet, rite? that'll make about 160 gals

huge tank!

I have seen some of my fish do something similar-i just keep an eye on them, but so far the one who does it most seems to be fine.

I have to disagree with the fish resting. Most fish don't rest alot. I they are on the bottom with fins clamped it means they are sick.
The first thing you need to do is get those tests. You can't assume that the water is ok because you keep it on a routine.
Another note, clamped fins usually indicates 2 things either PH problems or parasites. Either way water quality is a must.

Ditto what Laurie said, if you cant afford the tests get samples to your lfs to test. I would do more water changes through the week as well.

Im so sorry bubbles that your fish not well
I also agree, fish do rest...but not with clamped fins. Thats a sign of stress or illness.
I sure hope you can get some test results.
I will be thinking of you and your fish
btw......6 foot ong tank in the future..........OHHHH NICE!

Hiya Bubbles, were you able to take a sample water to the LFS to be tested? I noticed that you are overstocked, and sometimes even with having a good filter, sometimes your good Bio-Bugs just can't keep up with it all. if you're not changing out enough water the quality will become a problem.Could you check out your filter and let us know the size/type of it. For now until we know more,I'd attempt another water change on them, and see if there's any difference. When did you do the last one?
