Am I just a bad fish mommy? I had just changed their water, too. Oh my god. Maybe our water is too hard. I'll buy some bottled water at the store tomorrow.

How long have you had them? Did they show any signs? I would try to test the gH (water hardness) before you add bottled water. Bottled water doesn't have all the nutrients that fish need, and you can bring some water to a fish store and they will test for free.

The stats of the bottled water is
Nitrates- 0
Nitrites- 0
Hardness- 25 (very soft)
alkalinity- 6.2 -- not good
Would mixing equal parts of bottled and tap be ok?
Mixed, its:
Nitrates- 0
Nitrites- 0
hardness- 150 (hard)
alkalinity- 120 (ideal)
pH- 7.2-7.8

Neither Boo or Niram showed signs of anything. I'd had Niram since July 30, so I almost had him 3 months and my sister gave Boo to me because she didn't want him any more. We've had him for about a year.

Your water is not too hard. Where I used to live, our pH was at least 8.4 and our water was hard enough to walk (well over 300ppm) and I had zero problems with my bettas.

WIth puggy? We had them in a temporary 3 gallon bucket w/ filter while we set up the tank (we had just moved) and I set a towel over it to minimize splashing, the towel had soap on it, fell in, etc etc.
Not fun.

No, I always make sure I match the water temp.
