I havent posted in a long time, I've been extrememly busy. Yesterday I noticed that Omnipharous was pinceoning and usually when it gets that far, its too late and theres nothing i think I can do for him. Im letting live out his last few days in comfory, im leaving him in the divided 10 gallon (Dropsy isnt contagious right?) so he can enjoy filtered water and aeriation. Im going to miss my little guy cry3.gif He isnt lying at the bottom or anything yet, he seems normal, swimming around, so at least he isnt suffering. I just thought I'd update everyone.

I dont think so, I looked it up.

I heard that it's unsure if dropsy is contagious or not; since it's not a disease, just a symptom of another disease, so it depends on the disease that's causing it. It's also cautioned to use gloves when dealling with dropsy, because the cause may be tuberculosis and can be transmitted to humans; (very, very rare.) All four of my fish have had dropsy, only one died, which was the one I didn't catch until later so my fish were exposed to it, and nothing had happened to them at the time, so it just depends.

I'm sorry about Omnipharous; dropsy's a very hard thing to deal with, and it often puts you in a helpless postion. Again, I'm sorry.

Dropsy is actually a symptom and not a disease - that is, it is the end stage of organ failure in a fish that has a disease - so there are several disease that could lead to dropsy as the end result - some of them are contagious diease and some are not. Since you know the history of the tank, you can probably make a reasonable decision about whether or not the etiology is a contagious one.

I am sorry to hear that Omnipharous has developed dropsy. I hope he will be happy and pass easily - or maybe even make that rare but not unheard of recovery... heartpump.gif I hope you all will not have to go through this for long.

EDIT: teehee.gif Roano, I will read all the posts before I start typing since I just saw that I wrote exactly what you did! Good point about the TB.

Has Omnipharous always lived alone?

"Roano, I will read all the posts before I start typing since I just saw that I wrote exactly what you did! Good point about the TB."

I've done that before!

I actually learned about the TB pretty recently, I think from Ranchugirl, after my first fish had dropsy; I hadn't been careful at all, so I was lucky that wasn't the underlying cause and it wasn't contagious to my other fish. (I caught it pretty late, unfortenatly.)

How is Omnipharous today, Esarah?
