Are you asking how to keep the plant alive, or whether you should disinfect it?

How to disinfect it. It's a Brazil Sword.

You can disinfect it by dipping it in a bleach mixture of 19 parts water and 1 part bleach. Leave it in for 2 minutes, then rinse very well before putting back in the tank. You can rinse it in water with dechlor in it, just to be sure.
