I don't know why but the edit button is not available for my previous post....I meant to write 20-50 but it is very hard to determine the amount

im worried about my nitrate level...is it toxic to my fish..what wil high nitrates do to my babes?

Good water levels in a cycled tank are:

Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrites: 0ppm
Nitrates: idealy 10-20ppm, but anything under 40ppm is good.

You can do some water changes to bring your Nitrate levels down. smile.gif I think it can cause floating issues, not sure on specifics.

Thanx a lot chris smile.gif that could potentially be the issue in my tank

How long has your tank been set up? -if it's newish, then you are almost at the end of your cycle, if it's been set up for over a couple of months then perhaps you've got too many fish and your filter can't keep up with the waste your fish are producing.

High levels of nitrate are nt -toxic- to fish but they are an indication of poor water quality, (either not enough water changes, not enough detritus being taken out during cleaning or you are feeding your fish way too much). It's not so much the nitrates, but the other stuff that builds up in the water as well (other organic compounds, fish growth retarding hormones that are released by the fish, bad bacterias etc) that can damage your fish, I like to think that testing nitrate is a good overall indication of the levels of everything else that's going on in a tank, not just strictly the nitrate levels. (I know this is not strictly correct, but it's more of an indicator).

The closest the nitrates are to 0 the better the water quality you are keeping for your babies.

Hope this helps! smile.gif

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention your pH is spot on!

thankyou tosakin that helped a lot smile.gif

I'd do a couple of back to back 50% partial water changes to bring nitrAte down.

So how much water do you change out, how often?
What kinda filter, how big's the tank and how many fish of what size?
How do you clean the filter pads?
How long's the tank been set up?
