Forum > The Goldfish Topics > Goldfish Tanks > Goldfish plants, & how to set up a planted tank

I have had this plant for a while now. Its on driftwood.
Does anybody know what it is?
Also how long do I keep it in a tub of water by itself for QT porposes?
Thanks for any help.

I,m not sure about what type of plant that is but I can tell you that I have found that disinfecting plants with Potassium Permanganate is a lot easier and way faster than doing a traditional QT - like 30 min. versus a month! It's up to you... there were a few threads in the recent weeks (probably jsut a page or two behind) about disinfecting and QTing plants.

I'm thinking...oh, I really should not guess - I know nothing about plants! Bacopa? Maybe a Rotala? I don't know if they grow on driftwood... whatever it is, it sure is pretty! biggrin.gif

Why that's an anubia biggrin.gif

I have a few of them growing on the big log in my tank - looks very similar to this:

Ha, Ha! I thought so! It is often sold on driftwood... I guess the baby leaves look too different to my totally plant blind eyes! It will look so pretty in your tank! biggrin.gif

Ahhh thanks! biggrin.gif
I will check the pet store for Potassium Permanganate after my exam tomorow.
I read a few threads on using bleach to sterilize plants but I am really terified of doing that incase I kill it or the fish blink.gif
It is the only live plant I have so i wanted to know it by name to look up some care instructions.

I hope mine grows like yours JenW, your one looks sensational.
How long did it take to get to that size?
Black oranda
To be more correct it looks like a Anubius Nana, These guys stay small.

Thanks for the clarification Black oranda smile.gif

So mine may not get bigger after all.... oh well at lkeast that explains why it has not grown sinse I got it, it just keeps replacing leaves.

I once had an anubius that was before my goldfish decided to dismantle it .... it was so pretty..... cry3.gif

Hi Maceo
gee thats a shame.

This particular one was Fred's which was removed when he was sick so its in QT
He never tried to eat it at all.
I sure hope my other new fish dont when it goes in the tank!
Maceo
They didn't eat it so much as just pull the stalks off from the root base how they managed it I have no idea....
LuvMuhFred
wow my LFS told me that they wont eat it! LOL
sinse then....many months later I have learnt that sales people in pet/fish stores dont know much LOL
JenW
Wow Alex - you little green thumb laugh.gif

I've also got a couple of what I call midget anubias - although I think they're like my others in the pic as the small leaves are being replaced by the bigger ones.. and these are about the only kind i've ever been able to find around Sydney ...

The ones in the pic were very small when I got them and it took about 6months to grow to this size biggrin.gif

Thankfully my fish leave them alone biggrin.gif
