Are internal filters any good? I want to get one for my new tank.

Thanks for replying koko! Is there anything in particular that you don't like about them?

Most of them its harder to keep clean than the hang on filters or canitsters. Also they just dont clean the tank like the others do. I find that they cost more than what they are worth for your buck sad.gif

Hmm thanks. I think I might go with a cannister then, if I can afford one! smile.gif.

Unfortunately, the side of the darned tank is too thick, and won't fit a hang on. sad.gif

Hi,

I've got a power filter, supplementing a cannister. I got it to help with mechanical filtration, but I don't think it does that great a job. I still keep it because every little bit of filtration helps smile.gif

They are a bit of a pain to clean because the container holding all the gunk is in the tank. If you move the filter, you tend to swirl a lot of mess as well. It also takes up space in the tank.

Hope this is useful.

I use internals a bit because i'm quite restricted on what filters i can use. I have 2 1000L/hr ones with spraybars. They also have a little container in them for carbon (which i dont use), but i have filled them with ceramic rings. But i dont find them hard to clean, maybe hardER to clean than a HOB, but easier than a canister (i also have 2 canisters on the same tank). Cleaning is basically the same as a HOB, i just take the whole filter out, take it apart and clean the sponge in used water. I find it does a great job at mechanical filtration because every week when i clean it it has heaps of gunk in it! But it never goes in the tank, because i take the whole thing out, i dont break it apart IN the tank, then you'll find you'll have gunk going everywhere.

The only problem i find is that they produce ALOT of current. I've only found 1 brand that sells them with a spray bar, and it works magically smile.gif
