What started what I thought was a wound on the end of my plecos nose now has spread into a white rash across his face. Now both my big fantails have white spots on them, but in some places it is shaped more like rice and looks fluffly like and I can see it sway in the water when he swims. And on the other one a white haze is starting on her eye. They have all been in a 55 gallon tank their whole life 2 years, with no new fish introduced. Could the wound have started a fungus? Im about to go to Petsmart for meds of some kind but I figured Id ask first, see if anyone has any ideas since it didnt look like typical ich. Some spots but some longer pieces. Ugh I hope I can get rid of this. I circled the plecs nose he is kinda hard to see in the pic, Ill see if I can get a better one. Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated smile.gif

Here is a better pick of the pleco, this has gone from a small wound to this in 24 hours and jumped on the goldfish. I didnt think to ask but can pleco's take salt like a goldie?

Ok Ive got some meds, I wasnt sure what to get but this is what Ive got for now.

Maracyn used for fin and tail rot, popeye and body fungus.

Maroxy for fungal infections and they can be used together, I think I will try these first.
If this isnt good I also got something called Pimafix which is also a antifungal.

I hope this works and they get better, if Im doing something wrong please someone holla at me, thanks.

Hey Susu,

I am not sure what they might have, but sounds like you are on the right track. We just went through a bunch of sickness and used maracyn and maracyn-2 to treat them very successfully.

My fish responded quickly to the maracyn and showed improvement after the first treatment. I think the maracyn covers quite a few different illnesses (caused by different bacteria or parasites) so it sounds like a safe choice.

Thanks for the encouragement xsparkyx !! I was beginning to think nobody cared hehe. I have good news and bad news. Just overnight my goldfish look much better than yesterday and alot of the spots and strings have gone away, they still have a few but I'm hoping thats a good sign.

However my pleco is not looking good at all, no improvement and he is going crazy banging into ornaments and such, laying on his side, I can only hope he makes it.

I know its not good to have plecos and goldfish together, but I have never had problems with them, I always made sure he had plenty of his own food to eat, and when they were all very tiny and new I got a 55 gallon and put them all in. Man they all got sooooo big. My fantails body height are bigger than my hand, and the pleco I guess is about 10 inches long. I would just hate if anything happened to any of them. Ok I guess thats enough rambling for now, I hope everyone else has good luck with their problems. wav.gif
