I've tied some java ferns on pieces of driftwood with monofilament line. I was told that the roots will grab hold of the driftwood in no time at all, but after a week it seems that the roots are still largely floating around. Is it just me being impatient or there's something wrong?

Yes, you are being impatient It will take a few more weeks, but they will start to attach.

Mine took awhile to attach them selfs. It took a good 3 weeks or so. Maybe a month. But it probably depends on the tank, im guessing.
