Before my female guppies gave birth, I noticed them staying near the surface in one spot for quite awhile. The gravid spots on both my females looked the same to me but I hear some will be darker/larger before they give birth.
On guppies.com there is a list (on the forum I think it was) with a list of signs to look for. I do remember that eating more/less was a sign and becoming a bit mroe aggressive.
I hope it helps a little. I didn't have much luck breeding my guppies so I don't know the signs very well but I know others around the board somewhere have

Good luck!!

For me it was she was eating less and she was staying near the bottom like she was trying to hide. How long do you think she is pregnant? Usually guppies are pregnant for 20~34 days I think. So good luck.

when a guppy is pregnant they try to stay away from all the other fish. so this is probably why they are eating less and staying at the bottom more.

Well my other guppy is definetly close! she is boxy and usually she ALWAYS crowds my other guppy and today she goes to the bottom and never hangs with the other anymore!

very dark gravid spot means birth soon yes, if you just see the gravid spot, that only means it just started.

Is that always true for a gravid spot? I bought those 6 common guppies, they are all very young still, and 4 of them have a gravid spot. They seem a bit to young to mate still. They are in with my male fancy guppy and he has shown no interest in mating with any of them LoL. He does like to hang out with them all though. (I can see he's so much more happy with friends than he was all alone in my 5 gallon).

depends on how small because the gravid spot is another way to determine a male guppy from a female.
